75 all the way. geddy lee not. that is kid toy with fender logo on it. lakland is not fender. other jazz basses would be great,like alleva copp, but i guess money is an issue there. true, i would go with regular fender jazz (classic '60 mex. or american standard ), but if you're leaning toward '75, let it be...
so, '75!

The Geddys are not a toy. The fit and finish on mine are superior to my MIA P bass.

One point of clarification, the Geddy Lee has an alder body, custom shaved down thin neck, block inlays and a badass II bridge. It is also CIJ. It is in no way a standard off the shelf regular model J bass with a sticker.

does that go for his bass as well?

Well, his is not a CIJ, but yes, his has block inlays, an alder body, and a shaved down thin neck.

Mine! But seriously, if you dig the feel/sound of a '75 RI, go with it. No other bass is going to be able to pull off the same thing, except maybe an original '75.
