Jazz Bass or Precision Bass?

Hi guys,

What is your opinion, which one do you like more and why?
Jazz Bass or Precision Bass?

I like and play bluesy, blues-rocky stuff and I know that most famous bassists in this area play J basses but lately I develop interest also for the P basses...

My current instrument is a Squier J Bass and it sounds great but I feel it is time to upgrade a bit.

They are both classic designs. I started on a P bass but I think I have come to prefer the J. To me it has more clarity in its tone, whereas the P is more boomy. Just my opinion.

The best thing is to go to a store and try them both and see which one you prefer. Go to youtube and watch a lot of demonstrations, too.

I personally like the P bass best because I like the way it sits in a mix (stage or recorded) for the kinds of music I play (blues rock, classic soul / classic r&b, alternative... sometimes country / country rock or rockabilly too). Plus the modern C shape neck is perfect for my hands.

It really couldn't hurt (if you have the funds) to have a Jazz bass AND a P bass. Gives you a broader spectrum of sounds, playing styles and genres.

You can do things on a Jazz bass with round wounds that may be more appropriate than a Precision with flat wounds, and vice-versa...depending on the music you are playing and what sound(s) you like

I always liked those turtles on that internet commercial, the Slowskis i think there name is/was. Seem like a nice couple.
