Can you give an example or model of a clean boost pedal? Thanks

There are a number of pedals that could work. I have an Electro-Harmonix Soul Food pedal that would accomplish a clean boost as well as a Fishman Platinum Pro EQ/DE, although pricey at over $300, has not only a boost, but full EQ, compression, tuner, phase and some other things.

I got round this problem by using a Boss GEB-7 Equaliser. You can simply keep the sliders in the flat position (or adjust to taste) and use the output slider to increase the volume. It would be a lot cheaper than buying a set of new pickups.

I read about these and most reviews are great..The sliders are not defined/named so does it have mid/treble/bass?

I like this option because it is totally solderless. That preamp has mini-gain pots for each pickup, which is a nice feature.

As far as pickups go, I am one of the very few fans of SD QP’s. I have them in both fretted and fretless basses. They do have more output than stock Jazz pickups. Awesome output. They will change the tone of the Jazz bass with a bit more midrange and much more bottom. Not too many high’s though.
Many people here don’t like the QP’s and say that they sound scooped...but I don’t see that at all, even with both pickups on, they are less scooped than my OEM Fender Jazz pickups. And they growl...a lot.

The DiMarzio Model J or UltraJazz also seem to be a great choice for 4-string.

No it doesn't but it's a really easy pedal to use and very intuitive. As a previous post said, the frequencies are labelled at the top of each slider channel with the volume that gives a really powerful boost.

Agree with the simple solution of turning down the MM to match the level of the Jazz.

Whenever this issue would come up a little while back, one of the most popular solutions to be offered up here was the Radial Bassbone. I actually considered picking one up for just in case... never did though. Looks like the original version has been replaced with a new generation that includes overdrive.

Radial seems to have a new gizmo for this specific issue; the Bigshot i/o. Haven't tried any of these nuggets from Radial, but this one looks like a no-brainer if I get into the habit of regularly playing multiple basses at my gigs.
