Jazz bass vintage pickups

Hi, I bought a 1980 jazz bass. and it came with its original 1980 pickups. I love the sound.. but i just wonder....Are the original vintage pickups making the best out of the bass? or if i replaced them with new good ones it will sound better?

Is everything else original? If it is, I'd leave the pickups as is. Is there something you don't like about the current sound? Changing the pups will make it sounds different. "Better" is subjective.

Yeah everything else is original. And yes I like the current sound. I was just wondering because of the oldness of them. Am I just being ignorant?

Some believe the oldness of pickups give them a certain characteristic that modern companies try to duplicate. Magnets start to mellow out or voodoo... Who knows? Point is, if you like the sound, leave them, especially if everything's original.
