Jazz bass volume knobs

So i have a jazz bass know (just switched from a deluxe p) and I'm finding that the volume knobs don't do much until about 8 and up or so. Why is this? Is it like this on all fender jazzs. i used to have deluxe p and it had a pan pot, i got the jazz cause the two volumes appealed to me. Any help anyone?

that's pretty much how passive jazz basses work.

you can replace the audio taper pots with linear ones:

so it's giving me a more consistent usable vol? is this what you use? where can i get them?

in some of mine i do.
in a jazz bass you'll need solid shaft pots, so you can get this one:

and then use these on the shaft:
