Jazz bass - What color & pickguard combo ?

I took the original tort guard off my 'burst Am. Std. Jazz when I bought it and replaced it with a white pearloid(mother of toilet seat) guard.

My MIM Jazz is black with an Allparts maple neck, so I left the original white guard on it. If it was rosewood I'd seriously consider tort on black.

I went after what I thought was the classiest.

I'm a hardcore burst and tort fan, but I also love necks with binding and blocks. That neck looks fantastic with that body and the tort guard is obviously the right choice as far as I'm concerned.

I've had a hankerin for white on white for quite a while.

I'd like a white jazz, with a mother of toilet seat PG, maple board, and mother of toilet seat blocks and binding. Totally disco baby!

I like several combos, and I have a couple that are a little outside the norm: 2003 MIA Fender, Chrome Red/Black Sparkle/Maple; and 2010 G&L JB, Midnight Blue/White Pearl/Rosewood with matching painted headstock. The Fender came with a white guard, the G&L with tort. I originally used the black sparkle guard for the G&L, then decided it should have white pearl. When the pearl guard arrived from Chandler, I tossed the black sparkle guard on the Chrome Red Fender just for the heck of it, and I think it looks weird, but cool.

I own none of these, but the colors seem popular and are awesome in my eyes!

Red and white is always good. LPB and any sort of guard go well together, I think. Removing the guard a la Jaco has to be my personal favorite. Can't beat it.

Why don't you just get the combination you like best?

No, this is just a fun question. Maybe the answers will provide some reference for jazzbass players. My personal choice would be the classics - Bursts, Sonic, Lake Placid Blue, Olympic White, Black, and such - all with maple fretboards (maple cuz' my left hand prefers it, and I see my positions better when singing), and I prefer tort', and pearloid pickguards.

Dark lake placid blue, or as I like to say.. Lake Placid Blue "shrouded in mystery" paired with one ply matte black.

Thats become my favorite combo since I bought a ReRanch can of LPB expecting a randomly dark lake placid, then realized my computer brightness was all the way down and had to spray over everything with some translucent black because the idea was too cool to go back on.

I just wanted to get an idea of what jazz-bass players favor as colors for their basses, and pickguards. So, what's your fave color jazzbass, and what, if any pickguard goes with that ?

Natural '74 w/ maple neck. Just installed an aged pearl p'guard (original was white). Wasn't sure I'd like it when I ordered it....love it. Complements the fret markers.

Plenty of combos I like, I usually dislike white pearl guards though. My current favorite is my Flea jazz - aged pink shell/tort/rosewood combo. I love the aged off white colors, yellowed, creamy.
