Hey guys, im thinking about upgradeing my bass and im thinking about getting a jazz bass I want to spend about 1000-1500 CDN on a bass. im up for any suggestions that have the jazz body style so fender, valenti stuff like that.

Wont be able to get a Sadowsky for that price... Maybe a used Metro -if- you find an owner whose completely insane and wants to sell it for that low..

Being that you're canadian(or any other nationality) I suggest a Geddy Lee jazz bass.

well I was checking out the geddy lee and it says its an exact replica of the tonally singular instrument that geddy used but does that mean that I could only get one sound out of it or what?

I would get the Fender Marcus Miller 4-string, it is the most bang for the buck JBass Fender makes. They are CIJ with maple neck that is like butter to play with real block inlays and binding. Add to that vintage PUPs, pre-amp with active/passive switch, and BassAss II bridge. The street price is $830 USD and can be had cheaper if the store likes you.
You have a clear choice in my view... the Fender American Jazz bass, it's about $1000 US street price, the deluxe version with active pickups is about $1300 or so.. Go test drive a few, make sure they're properly setup first, and then pull the trigger.. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
A Valenti would be towards the upper range of what you mentioned, but if you can swing it, I'd put that higher than most everything else. Nino can make you just about anything, and his quality control is as good as any other manufacturer, I'd say.
Just by the MIA Jazz original or a Fender MIA Jazz Deluxe or maybe a Fender Roscoe Beck. The RB may be pusshing your budget but worth a look. It has a Jazz Bass body anyway.
I vote a Valenti with a maple neck. Bartolini electronics. Classic Bass series MM pup in the bridge and Classic Bass Jazz pup in the neck, and NTBT pre. My "Geddy" is like that. the MM has a series/single(bridge coil)/parallel switch so I can go from a pseudo Sterling to a Jazz Bass sound.

Alright for the dough. I'd second the Geddy, but you can't beat the Lakland Skyline for Bang for buck craftsmanship and sound. I have a Darryl Jones, and put in Sadowsky Pre and Pickups. Sounds great, but it doesn't play like a Sadowsky. The Lakland Joe Osborne Skyline comes stock with fralin pickups and can be had very cheaply used.
As usual, I'd suggest a used Hamer USA CruiseBass, with either a 2-TEK or a Gotoh bridge (mine is a 2-TEK). They are usually available on e-Bay for about $500 and they're superb instruments...top notch electronics, hardware, woods and finishes. They are boutique quality basses at a working man's price; they listed for about $1,500 US 10 years ago. You simply can't go wrong with one of these.
yeah I was also checkin out the lakland skyline series I saw the daryl jones model it looks good and it was looking good but one thing I wanted to know which I dont know if you guys have experianced but ever since I seen fanned fret basses like a dinwall I thinking that thats the only way to get a good five string but how would a lakland five string compare to it?
