jazz or p bass for rock...??

hi i cant decide which bass to use for the band im in ?? whats best for a band with 2 guitarists?my jazz or p ?we are playing rock music??

I play both depending on the humour. Depending on your proficiency level, I find the jazz physically easier to play and will take it out when having doubts about myself.

Either one is good for any style of music. Pick the one that feels best to you.

I tried both.

I love the way my J looks and plays, and tried to make it work for a couple of years...swapping pickups, strings... but the P just kinda slots in a whole lot better.

It really underpins the sound in a way the J doesn't.

I agree in general that the J is built to cut through better all else being equal, but if you want to make it work with a P that should be cool too.

Steve Harris cuts through 2 and sometimes 3 guitarists just fine with a vintage P with flats, but he has a unique attack on the strings. I actually don't like his tone, though I'm a big fan of his band, his playing/songwriting, and his signature Fender bass. If you use a P just make sure you set the eq at the appropriate levels to cut through with a mid boost, (and add a nice slice of compression and chorus since it's metal) , throw an EMG P pickup in there, and most importantly, maybe even use a pick

thanx for advise guys.. im jammin with the jazz today...ive got these pickups called tonerider , google them. they are awsome!!!!
