I voted P, but this is what does it for me most of the time....

Damn that is all kinds of sexy!

OK. I voted J, because I use my J the most, BUT that does not mean that I find my P useless - not at all! I love my P, too. They are both great basses, and if I could, I would play them at the same time :-)

A shame that Fender didn't make P/J's back in the 70's... :-(

For reference I'm currently in your typical loud five piece (vox, guitar, keys, bass, drums) cover band doing everything from jazz to metal. I'm not looking to "cut through". Instead I like my tone to sit in the mix to benefit the overall sound of the band.

My main (only) bass at the moment is a MIA jazz. In my 20+ years of playing I've been through numerous J's, P's and P/J's.

I prefer the J's mainly for their sound and looks. The P's are great too. I especially like the neck. The J's are more versatile in my book, whereas the P's have only one sound but does it great!

I don't believe the P/J config is the best of both worlds but produces a unique sound. It's not for me though.

I really like both but if i had to settle for just one bass for the rest of my life it would be the J so I voted Jazz.
