Jazz pickup(s) on Pbass

Hi
I learned bass on a precision

and as i am playing more funk stuff now i am wondering if it
is possible to replace my single coil pickup by a jazz bass one to get the sound i need ?
In that case what would be a good, inexpensive choice ?

What's wrong with the P-bass single coil pickup? It plays funk for days IMHO.

If you want a more snappy/scoopy slap sound, I'd suggest adding a J-pickup in the bridge position. You can then also solo it and get that snarling hi-mid jazz growl that's very useable in a lot of funk.

Actually there is not much slapping and it is more like fusion style finger playing,
any "bang for the buck" jazz pickup to look at ?

Do you plan to keep it a single pickup bass, or do you plan to add a bridge pickup?

I've seen a couple original style P basses with a 2nd single coil P pickup at bridge location, but I've never played one.

My favorite bass is P body, J neck, and JJ pickups.

My older Warmoth has 2 SD Hot Jazz Stack pickups, Fender TBX tone, and 500k volume pots.

I get good finger and slap tones with the set up.

My new Warmoth project will have 2 Dimarzio Area J pickups, and I look forward to getting it finished soon.
