jazz pickups close together?

I have a bass that I have thought about routing to have two jazz pickups right next to each other because there isn't much room, would there be that much variation in tone for it to be worth doing?
There won't be much variation in tone between the two pickups, but throw a series/parallel switch in there and you basically have a homebrew humbucker. In series, it will have a much boomier tone than in parallel...

Do you know where I can hear a demo of the in series tone?
I can't say that I do know where. I'm speaking from my own direct experience with my Jazz. I'd record one myself, but my gear is all in storage right now. The best comparison I can make is that my jazz in series sounds a lot like my precision with the treble rolled off about halfway. I'll see what I can do about recording my own bass in the next couple of days...

Thanks, I would love to hear it.

I had a fretless Warwick Thumb BO-5 w/that PU config(the one in Kubs' post); it was NOT a very versatile bass, tonally. My Stambaugh 6 has very closely-spaced Aero(single coils, IIRC, although they don't hum when soloed)and that bass has a LOT of variety between settings. The bridge PU is quite a bit further from the bridge than that on the WW, though. I'll look for a pic- I think Big O has one on his Stambaugh gallery...
