JBL 2226 for bass

Please don't get me wrong I like Black Widow speakers they just weren't designed to go to down to 30 Hz and thats where that low B is on a 5 string bass especially with active electronics. I would think the Peavey Low Riders are the answer to that with Hz rating down to 30hz but I've never tried them.

David - you are fairly new here but perhaps you would be shocked to discover that some of the folks you are arguing with might know more than you THINK you know. You might also be surprised to learn that some of us have a LOT more experience than you do with these very products. You might consider this information before you make your next post.

The JBL 2226 not by itself a great BASS GUITAR speaker, and it is NOT capable of 30Hz performance. Before you tell me how wrong I am and how I don't understand what I am talking about, I was a JBL factory certified service and recone tech back in the 1970's through the 1980's, I am intimately familiar with their drivers and their real world performance capabilities.

The 2226 is a pro audio woofer, in a 4.5 cubic foot box with optimal tuning, it's capable of the following specs:

LF F3: 48Hz
LF F6: 44Hz
LF F10: 38Hz
HF F3: 1.8kHz @0 deg, 800Hz @45 deg
HF F6: 2.1kHz @0 deg, 1.2kHz @45 deg
HF F10: 2.4kHz @0 deg, 1.4kHz @45 deg

While the LF capabilities are fine for bass guitar, there is no way that anybody is going to achieve 30Hz performance under any meaningful conditions, not even close.

The HF performance is not very suitable to bass guitar because the on axis response is quite dark though not unusable. Because of the shallow cone though, the off axis response is pretty unusable for the vast majority of players, and this can't be "fixed" with a typical tweeter because the rolloff frequency is so low and not very uniform.

From the numbers, it's clear that the polar response is optimized for a crossover frequency of around 1.2kHz, where the -6dB figure contributes accordingly to constant power summing with off axis consideration. In fact, in most of JBL's products, this driver is used in applications with crossover frequencies between 800hz and 1.6kHz.

There are ways to make it work well, but not in the cabinets that you are talking about.

i understand what you are saying but it does the job and the specs are close to what JBL posted for the size cabinet. Have you played a 5 string double humbucking thru one. You give me feed back and you don't play you just go by specs. I've reconed speaker too. I know what works and sounds good
 
I'm posting what works for me guys and what the specs say. I'm not here to argue with anyone. You all keep telling this won't work in this box and this speaker won't do this or that, Well until you've played thru em or have experience other than whats on paper whats the problem. I know what works for it doesn't matter how long I've been on here,

I know I posted has anybody have any experience with the JBL 2226H as apposed to a black widow and nobody said a word. Now that I put it in the cabinet and played thru everybody is tell me it won't do this and it won't do that and I'm out playing. I know when I play the low B and C it does better than anything else I've tried regardless of who says what

You have an opinion that you state as a fact that is directly contradicted by the actual facts. Factually, the 2226 response does NOT extend to 30Hz or anywhere near 30Hz, not even close.

This doesn't mean that it might not sound good to YOU, but my experience is that it won't be acceptable to MANY players in that application.
 
I know this much I started playing bass on band jobs when I was 15 and I played Fri night and I'm 65 so I know more than you might think I do and I've played thru alot of rigs and with alot of pro players, so i know that much. if you haven't played thru the speakers I'm talking about why am I getting all these negative opinions. by the way what are you all playing thru?
