that expalanation I can buy I've found that turning the tops way way down with the input set to LINE and driving all the speakers a bit harder than I would normally want to from the board yields a good result for me. Pretty much ends up at the same point as you're method

I could have gotten the terminology wrong. Fact is the tops need to be at the quieter setting that needs more input to get loud

Then that would be the line setting. the mic setting is for plugging a microphone directly into the speaker.

Line level indeed. The noise floor at mic level is way, way up there... For anyone using a Studio Live board with PRX's. Have you tried the SMAART setup? I did that recently just to check on my a QSC setup and added a little bit of boost at the crossover point...

Sorry, I forgot to add the promised pic. 2 of the Monitors and the two flanking tops are PRX 712s and the two PRX 718 are clustered in the middle, on the floor just below the singer.

They were just barely on. We weren't any where Near what that rig is capable of. Only like... maybe 1/8th power. Hell, look at the bass rig I brought... yea. Like the old adage goes... Better to have it and not need it... I could have killed 'em.

EXACTLY. We need a new mixer so bad, thats where funds are going but I would love another one, not that we NEED it, but it would be awesome! We are FINALLY setting it up correctly at the next gig for the first time. (Dont ask) Cant wait! I loved having the whole PA at my house. This sub is DEFINITELY a XLF (Extended low frequency) A bit of a hole at the 100 to 120 hz range for sure. If I had a 31 band EQ on the system Id definitely give a little more at that level.

Really? I find it just about perfect. In my experience, in the past, there always seems to be a natural bump in that 100 to 125hz spot. I guess its from using electronic xovers crossing over @ 100hz. I usually notched that just a bit. Now, with the new PRX rig, it sounds "right" to me. Hmmm... I guess it's all in the ear. Or lack there of.

What mixer are you looking at?

Allen & Heath QU-16 Behringer X32 Compact. Digital with Ipad control & motorized faders. Almost bought the Stupid Deal of Day BBE 24 channel digital mixer but needs an adapter for wifi & once you install it voids your ability to return it if you dont like it!
