JC Basses - 5 String Maple

Hey, I'm liking how this bass is turning out so far!

I was wondering, where did you find the maple for the body wings? I want to build a semi-hollow bodied electric bass out of all maple besides the fingerboard, and I have had no luck finding maple for the body. I'm hoping to find a blank that would be of normal size and thickness. Where did you find yours? Thanks!

Thanks. Yes, pretty much any hardwood store should carry 8/4 maple that is wide enough for the wings. When the bass was originally going to be a bolt on, we wanted the body to be one solid piece, meaning 8/4 maple that is 13"+ wide. I had no luck with that, but 8" or less all day long. Maybe try eBay as a last resort if you can't find anything local.

I'm green with envy!

I see what you did there! :D

looking good...!!!!

Thanks!

Any hardwood store should have, or be able to get rapidly, a piece of 8/4 maple thats 4-7" wide.

Exactly.

Pickup cavities and bridge cavity have been routed. Once the control cavity is done, I'll start cleaning up everything and getting into the fine work.

I made the control cavity template and used an inlay router kit to make a perfect fit. The inside has just been roughed out.
