I started out not being a fan at all of Jeff's. I always believed that musically he gave a lot of great advice, and he played great, but was so dogmatic and egotistical about it that I felt compelled to speak about it. I also thought that he took an extremely cheap shot at Jaco in BP by pointing out that he wasn't good at improvising and the songs he wrote like "Havona" weren't improvised (duh!). But then Jeff got wind of it and attacked the hell out of me, which I probably deserved. I would still trade barbs with him for a couple months, though

But then I think we discovered that we agreed more than we disagreed and I felt really bad about bumming him out, so eventually we became internet pals. I still hang on his Facebook page sometimes, too. Sometimes he still infuriates me, like when he attacked Amy Winehouse for being an average pop singer on the day she died (before drugs burned her out, she was a brilliant jazz singer who also played a pretty decent rhythm guitar). But he's entitled to his opinion.
He says he had an epiphany about his behavior a few years ago and discusses openly the struggles he's had to change himself, such as getting counseling, and sometimes he'll have lapses, but he's really trying to work out his demons, so I give him all credit for realizing his old path only served to turn people off. It's not an easy thing for a guy like Jeff to change his ways, but he's working on it, so I salute him for it. He's really not such a bad guy...just way too intense about music for his own good.
