How did JB get banned from TB? Just curious here, since I was out of the TB loop for a while before coming back recently. I remember him being opinionated, but educational nonetheless. Thanks all!. -JP

As I recall , he had a problems with these TB rules:
"Rule #1: Respect your fellow members. All registered users must address fellow members with the utmost respect at all times. If you do not agree with a fellow member, be courteous in your response. Thomas Jefferson said it best: "When I hear another express an opinion which is not mine, I say to myself, he has a right to his opinion, as I to mine"."
"Rule #5: Questioning a Moderation Decision Publicly If you have a disagreement with a moderator (If your thread gets deleted, if you get a warning, etc.), DO NOT post your complaint publicly on the forums. If you would like to raise a complaint regarding a moderator's actions, start a private conversation or email the moderator. If the moderator's response is unsatisfactory, please contact the forum admin staff by clicking the "contact us" link in any page's footer. "
I have found today (coming back to TB after four years away) that the rules have changed a lot.. Had my thread deleted.
Wow, not sure how i feel about this. I admit I don't know what happened between Berlin and his fellow TB'ers, but I gotta ask....how can allowances not be made? The guy, although not my bass hero, is solidly in the pantheon of bass legends. Anyhow, not knowing the facts I probably shouldn't throw in my 2 cents, but there you go.
Explained this way, I totally agree. As I said, I am a new TB'er and as such was not privy to whatever happened, but yes, if it was a matter where the guy just didn't know how to act, then banning him was a good thing. In fact, it's a good lesson to those same 13 year olds you speak of, that in today's day and age, even being a famous bassist doesn't make you immune to the rules.Allowances were made, again, and again, and again. He simply didn't care to follow the rules. They weren't new, surprising rules he didn't know about- he broke the same rules repeatedly even after repeat warnings.
And frankly, he didn't deserve the exceptions he got. Being a famous bassist doesn't mean the rules don't apply to you- if anything, that fame should hold you to a higher standard. We have a bunch of pros on TB with equal or greater credentials that have never broken a rule once. We also have countless thousands of users ranging from 13yo on up who never break a rule once. If a 13yo can handle it, so should a grown man. All of us here could benefit greatly from his wealth of knowledge- it just may be that an internet forum with rules that don't fit the way that he feels he wants to communicate may not be the place for him.
Fame doesn't give you the right be a jerk to others. You might feel that way, but that doesn't make it true. Plus he doesn't support the use of metronomes!

Shows how much I pay attention. I didn't even know he was a member here.
He's been gone for awhile. And, honestly, even when he was active he would disappear for long periods, pop back up, start a very controversial thread or two (which usually ended up locked) and then disappeared again.
What was his user name?
+1. I'd love to look those posts up and see what the buzz is about. What was his user name?
