Jeff Berlin Dean Prototype

I have the Dean Jeff Berlin Prototype bass. The bass is really nice but it is one of those basses you don't want to play for fear of wear. Should I pass this along to another bassist that may cherish it in a collection or keep it myself? If I keep it, I will play it and it is unfinished cherry and maple so it will wear.

I don't know what to do. Any thoughts? Play it or sell it?

If it's any good I'd use it.
If unfinished, I might have a clear coat of varnish applied to give at least some protection.
Wear has never been a problem for me personally.

My unfinished basses are all worn out from slap dig out, thumb rest and neck wear. Maybe varnish is the way to go on this.

This bass was made without the passive Barts in it. It has a really warm tone. Anyway, should I decide to keep it, who could I send this off to to have the wood refinished so that it is perfect, varnished, and a fret job?

If I decided to sell it, what would the value be?

I would play it.

I once owned the prototype of the Rickenbacker V63 bass. It had an original 60's magnetic horseshoe pup and the photograph of it was in the Smith Book, it was not really worth any more when I came to sell it. (Bought it from the bass player in Sham 69 and sold it to the nephew of Jim Capaldi)

Not sure his name adds that much to the value, in my opinion. I would think its value is what the bass itself is worth.

Of course it's up to him to decide, but why on earth ask for thoughts when you know you're gonna ignore them anyway? I mean it was 6:1.

I've just decided that this should go to a collector of such things. I didn't see any opinions that justified me making this a gig bass.

Yeah, I just really wanted some good feedback. If nobody buys it then I will gig with it and not be so concerned about every nick and scratch. If you saw the top of my production Jeff Berlin bass it looks gross from beach gigs, sweat and dug out wear in the wood.

I am thinking the value would be around $800ish? What are the thoughts on that?
