Jeff Berlin Dean Prototype

Looks to me like that bass has a rubbed oil finish on it first of all. Secondly, it's a Dean Bass, not a 59 pbass.... it ain't that collectable. Finally, it's a damn bass, it's meant to be played.

Now if you are selling cause you don't dig it, that is one thing but if you are selling it because you don't want to scratch it, you are worrying about the wrong stuff dude. Whoa!

I get it, you're not a fan of Dean basses. This is an artists series bass and a prototype, forgive me for my concern. If it has no value other than being a regular bass then I will start gigging with it. It does get played, just not gigged with. Anyway, I know it's not super special and with Jeff Berlin having his name tied to it for some reason doesn't help. Like I said before, if it doesn't sell for what I feel it's worth then it will be my main bass.

Yeah that doesn't make too much sense. If I sold this bass then I would have to buy another one but it would be easiest to make this a gig bass. I really did want quality input. Have I received that? Anyway, I am not going to keep trying to justify my post.

Not a fan or a detractor. Never owned one, never played one and if Jeff Berlin plays one, it's certainly a very good bass.

It 's a Dean bass, not known in pro circles as a bass of choice... artist series by Dean does not carry very much, if any, cache in the bass world and that is no reflection on the quality of the bass, just a fact.

Other than a finding a rabid Jeff Berlin fan, why would you think this bass is collectable?

This makes zero sense to me.

It certainly feels to me like you are trying to market the sale of your bass in a thinly disguised request for input from your pals at TB. I could be wrong but Good luck with the sale!

If you know what you wanted, you should have just gone and done it. Starting a thread where you ask for opinions and then saying "never mind, I don't like what you're telling me" when people give you straight answers is waste of everyone's time. Sorry we didn't tell you what you wanted to hear. Makes me question your reasons for opening up the topic to discussion.

Also: I've discovered the secret for making any thread unpleasant: Simply add the words "Jeff" and "Berlin" to the title in some way. That's practically a guarantee of thread fail and a generally stinky, unsatisfying conclusion. Doubly guaranteed if Berlin himself is involved.

This is great! I am finally starting to get good feedback on this. If the thing is not worth that much then as stated before I will make it a gig bass and not give a crap about any damage that may happen. I don't need to sell it and this would be a dumb fishing expedition. I asked for feedback up front and I received no quality support. Now you guys are actually letting me know your opinions on the bass, artist, dean etc. Thank you. Based on the feedback I am finally getting from the community it looks like I should just keep it. Again thanks for adding substanance to your posts.

So if you can't sell it than you'll keep it, right? Fair enough. But keeping it as a main bass after you couldn't sell is just strange (for a lack of a better word). If that bass was a live creature it wouldn't want to be with you cause you just told him: "Listen here, I am keeping you because nobody else wants you. Is that OK with you?"
To me a main bass is something sacred and never open for evaluation. But that's just me.

I guess it's a good thing that it's not a live creature, then. It's also not a space shuttle, a 3-ring trapper keeper or an area rug.

To me a main bass is something sacred and never open for evaluation. But that's just me.
