Well, hellifino, really. But I'd suppose he's saying you need to learn, and master, the rules. Breaking the rules and "doing it my way" are often shorthand for "I never learned the right way to do it." I think he's just more serio0us about people not fooling themselves with a rock 'n roll dream but who don't want to put in the work to not just play, but learn music thoroughly, and with some academic rigor. It's the difference between Julliard and shagin' Around. Just my guess.

Well come on! :D

I will say that it's absolutely possible to notate Ade's elephant noises. Might need to make notations about certain pedals, but as far as the notes...easily notated.

That's what the THEORISTS IMMEDIATELY said about some "Blues" music?

I don't want to start any "tempest in a teapot".
I just want to get my personal opinion across that Jeff Berlin will be FOREVER the same Jeff Berlin - a very Passionate and Extremely/Superbly gifted/talented Musician with a lot of Arrogance and Impatience.

Dude's 62...it's always going to be a battle for him to fight his natural combative tendencies. At least he's trying, though, and that's a lot more than I can say for a lot of 62-year-olds.

I still don't understand why Jeff Berlin WANTS to change.
Is it MONEY?

IMHO, Jeff became one of the world's Best Bass player by BEING himself, including being "arrogantly impatient". I enjoy immensely listening to Jeff's bass playing, his Music
which is an Aural Expression of his "impatient and arrogant" Inner World.

Garry Willis' technique and Music is just pure reflection of Garry's inner world and manners.

I'm only 48, but I can really appreciate what that's like. I have a reputation of being helpful and really easy to get along with with co-workers, but also being extremely candid and honest when management does something stupid, which obviously doesn't sit well with most bosses. It's like I have a genetic inability to keep my fricking mouth shut and play the political games because I feel the hypocrisy in my marrow if I try. I think "touched in the head" probably covers it.

I haven't read the offending thread, but man, how does a top-shelf bass website ban BOTH Jeff Berlin, AND Ken Smith?

Makes you wonder about how things get handled, that these are 2 bass luminaries, who are not welcome in this bass community, apparently. I'd let 'em both back in. What's the worst that can happen? They get re-banned?

Interesting. I know Ken feels like they gave him a dirty deal by letting another upright bass manufacturer take the permanent headline banner in the DB section, and that TB went along with that manufacturer's request that Ken be excluded from advertising here in the DB forum. At least that's what I have heard, outside this website; so I should not say I "know" as I can't independently verify that this occurred-- except that I do "know" Ken feels like they gave him underhanded treatment and that this is Ken's account of it. That much is fact.

Didn't know about Jeff's additional shenanigans, but still, I don't care.

Frankly they ought to unban the both, IMO. Whether or not they elect to participate or stay away after being unbanned is another matter, and entirely up to them. It just seems silly to have this bass clique but two acknowledged giants of the industry are locked out. They may not be perfect people, but dang, that seems cold. I certainly do not feel like I am too good to have to associate with the likes of them.
