I know he doesn't play bass on the Jackson 5 studio albums but the other day i saw a live video of the Jackson 5 on YouTube and i have to say he has great feel and tone , i really didn't expect his playing to be so good

He is very underrated . The Jackson brothers were sitting and learning from the greats . Jamerson and the funk brothers, Marvin Gaye , Stevie Wonder, Barry Gordy, Ashford & Simpson. What a great musical education they had.

I watched The J5 on those '70s variety shows...I did not exactly know what Jermaine was playing...but it looked cool.

This was the same concert where you see James Jamerson playing behind Marvin Gaye. It was from a movie called "Save the Children". I would love to see that movie out of curiosity, but from what I found, the movie has never been released on home video in any form.

Underrated indeed.
Even if JJ played in the studio, Jermaine grew into a fine bassist himself.
Like his playing on 'Let's Get Serious". Seen a video of him playing that AND singing live. Impressive.
