Jethro Tull

It was weird to see Tull with a hawaiian shirt and a 6 string Fodera- not even a pick!

They werent bad, but I just wonder how far from the original concept Ian would let it go....guess we'll see.

I'm going to risk posting this without much if any pre-reading.
I saw Thor's name so I figured I was safe enough and might be forgiven if this is already old news at TB but it's new to me...again!
I only just found it:

Just finished reading all 230 posts, what an awesome thread.
Glenn Cornick, if you're still out there, thank you for inspiring me with great music over the past 40 years or so...I've been priveliged to see Jethro Tull three times, on the Aqualung tour, Thick as a Brick, and Passion Play. All in Southern California, and if I remember right, the Aqualung tour was at Long Beach Arena, and a new band called the Eagles opened for JT. Three encores, and we wondered if Tull could Stand Up (sorry, I had to say it...). They did, in spades. Absolutely rocked the place that night. What's really cool is that my son is recently getting into classic JT and I'm hoping that they will come to the States again sometime soon.

Thanks for bumping on of my all time fave threads, replete
with a visit from Glenn Cornick himself.

Ian Anderson is on tour now, he will be here at either
Foxwoods Casino or Mohegan Sun in CT next month.

Unfortunately (or not depending on your viewpoint) he is on
solo tour playing acoustic.

I don't know about y'all, but I just don't get excited about
JT 'Stripped'. To me the power of the bass, drums and the
virtuosity of Martin Barre is a huge part of JT's appeal.

My .02

I'll always be into a Jethro Tull thread bump....

I agree with the above...thank you Glenn for inspiring me as a bassist and contributing to the music that in part made me want to be a musician.

I'm not excited about later years Tull and Ian's solo stuff..but I do keep going to their gigs here ever few years. I guess its a pining for the past...its dosent matter i get a kick everytime seeing Ian and Martin play.

As for Ian without JT...hmm...not for me.

Yes! Livingston Taylor WAS there! Most of us were wondering WHY?!?!?

I think I was at that show at Anaheim Convention Center! IIRC, the opening act was JoJo Gunne, then Livingston Taylor, then Tull.

I used to love it back in the day when they'd put together weird lineups like that.

Admittedly OT, but I remember seeing another odd lineup a little later in the '70s:

Eagles
Edgar Winter's White Trash
Yes

Can you say whiplash?

Ah, and with a Tull (and GC!) bump all is right with the world.

I've seen Tull, I believe, 4 times; Under Wraps, Crest of a Knave, 20th anniversary, and Rock Island. CoaK was far and away the greatest, and the "Wind Up" encore is one of my fave concert memories to this day.

First song that my first teacher had me sight read? Bouree.

And to Glenn Cornick for stopping by; you sir, rock.

BUMP!
Amazing! I'm relatively new on TB and happened to "search" John Glascock (one of my fav bassist and BB on drums). This thread is 10 yrs old now! I haven't read through it ALL yet but I'm working on it. To have Glenn pop in with so much info almost makes me giddy! My first taste of Tull was through Aqualung album then really got into Tull in the Glascock era. Seeing Bursting Out tour in San Diego is one of my concert Highlights but all I remember is rushing the stage and running around like a goof. I wish I could go back in time and smack myself around and say "Hey, settle down and pay attention...you're being blessed with arguably the 2nd "classic" line-up (IMO only) of JT! RESPECTS FOR ALL OF TULL'S MUSICIANS. HUGE TULL FAN!

anybody ever hear the "Wild Turkey" album? Cornick and some other geezers had this band just after he left JT. He continues his great round tone with very interesting blues/rock tunes. awesome. if you have the CD, please lemme get a copy...

Nothing like a speedy reply...

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but Wild Turkey Mk 1 released two albums. The first was Battle Hymn in 1971 and Wild Turkey in 1972.

Why do I know this? Because I got a turntable (or as my kids call it, an old fashioned CD player) for Christmas and they were among the LPs I excavated from under the house.

The second album still sounds remarkably fresh and interesting. It has more of a boogie feel than Tull of the period, with some nice slide playing. Well worth checking out if you like Stand Up and Benefit.

I recently converted the Bursting Out live set to digital, and really was blown away by the bass playing. I didn't pay enough attention to it while I was growing up listening to that album. What an amazing sense of time, tone, and chops.

I love that album, period. Glascocks playing and tone (IMO) does it for me. Hell, the editing they did to the song Thick as a Brick is great, so many killer parts and Tull seemlessly cut it beautifully.
As I became more experienced and older I came to appreciate and totally dig the beauty of Glenn's bass playing on "Bouree" and in general for that matter (as someone else wrote earlier ...you sir rock!) but because I'm a little younger and grew up in the Glascock/Barlow era I'm a little partial to that line-up. They had this sound that I can only describe as Medieval (am I the only one who hears that?) But again, I love Tull in general. I can find gems in all of Tull's line-ups. Now, I need to go back through this whole 10 yr thread and find MORE gems!

Has anyone out there ever met or spent any time with any Tull members? Particularly earlier line- ups?

I'd be interested in hearing any stories....

Mine is that I bumped into Doane Perry at a trade show once, and then asked him if Martin Barre was coming... and where I could find him?
