Job advice for a teen.

Hmm $130? try $82. The reason I was going to,"Turn him in" was so the next kid doesn't get cut. And before you say it, yes I know 82 bucks is good pay for 2 ~7hour days.
I know you're young and all, but really, I don't think you have ANYTHING to complain about, or anything that needed a thread for it. You have a job, and though you are underage the boss gave you an opportunity to make some $$. At worst your boss is 'mean' at times. When you understand what goes into running a restaurant and what it's like when your employees aren't putting in 100% (or even when they are) you'll understand why some restaurant owners are stressed.
You're 15 and have a job, congrats. I'm 21, recently out of a job, opposite side of the world to what would be home, have one quarter sitting in my room, no money in the bank (pay day was yesterday and it all went straight to rent), two loaves of bread in the freezer, a jar of peanut butter and enough taco kits to last me 4 more nights if I'm stretching it. Spent the last 5 days non stop searching for a job either online or mainly walking the streets with resumes. I got a job P/T at a supermarket yesterday for about half the wage I should be getting paid (yet still grateful for), and still need more to cover rent/bills and living expenses (which aint cheap in Calgary), which means continuing to job search like crazy.
If I was 15 and had a solid job making some extra money I'd be stoked, the last thing I'd be doing was ratting in the boss after been given work. If he was misinforming you and forcing you to do things you didn't want to, I'd say at worst screw the job and find something else, but it doesn't sound like he's doing much other than giving you some $$ to spend.

I forgot, generally you have to be 18 to be covered by workmans comp & the company insurance policy.
But, it's something to consider in 2 years.

Do you realize I can make more money, and have more flexible hours at a diffrent job? And I was stressed out lastnight so I came here to rant. The other place is hiring. I would be crazy not to go. Honestly I was using TB to just bs with people and see what they would do in my situation. Not that your opinion and TB's opinions are not good, but in the end I will be the one who has to make the decisions. Thanks guys for responding.
I'm 17 now, I'll be 18 on the 26th. I haven't been able to find a job since my sophmore year. Atleast your working. I need the money, and so far, most places I have applied to wouldn't hire me because I'm too young. I did work for my dad a bit during the summer, he's a carpenter. Trades are definitely the way to go. The work can be a bit rough, but honestly, I'd rather be learning something while I work instead of bagging groceries. However, I think the fact that I work for my dad doesn't look so good on resumes. When employers see that my previous boss has the same last name as me, same address, etc, I think it doesn't look so good.
Some of the labor laws are a bit harsh I think. Atleast you have a job. I tried to get a job at a lumberyard, but you can't operate a saw, or even use wire cutters if you are under the age of 18. These people at the lumberyard know my dad very well too, and realize I'm capable of operating a saw, but they wouldn't hire me because of the labor laws. Lots of other buisinesses will not hire you if you are under 18, such as family dollar, even though it doesn't take very much skill to handle a job like that.

I'm not going to rat him, but he is very weird. If you need a day off, you have to have it in prolly 2-3 months in advance to get a 30% chance of not getting fired. Just kind of weird.
Yeah, sometimes you deal with some crazy employers. My dad and I did a job this summer for one of my dads sort of friend. This guy is nuts, he is very picky and has a very short fuse. My dad and I did some carpentry in a building where he was going to open a car wash. My dad and I were putting in 10 hour days a lot of times, and he still complained that we were too slow. I asked him if he would hire me at the car wash, he assured me he would call when it was going to open. This guy put 20 something cameras up in this building, because he trusts noone. He got it set up so that he could watch the camera from any computer with internet access. He ended up not opening the car wash in the end, which is probably a good thing for me. Working for him wouldn't be easy. While I was working with my dad, they sent me out to get lunch. This guy told me to get him an italian beef. I got screamed at because his sandwich had hot peppers instead of mild, he blew it way out of proportions.
At the same time though, you need to make money. I would have put up with him, because I am sick of being broke, and relying on my mom to give me money.
Hey I'm 45 which makes me out of touch lol, I glanced over this thread, maybe missed some things. You work, I like that. **** em, move on. Always move on. No, dont report them. You'll wind up reporting your whole life. And get to work, get off the damn computer.
i would just give my two weeks notice and find another job....politely but firmly,and you owe him no explanation beyond "i have another opportunity"....you seem like the type that people want to hire.....employers nowdays expect that people will move on
I am not a lazy kid at all. My last job ended because of the economy, and I got this job the next day. Didn't wait around for nothing. As for my "bills" I need ~$45 a month for my cell. Other than that it is my lunch money for at school and going out with girlfriend money.The last time I asked my parents for money was two summers ago. I do not like using other peoples money. I'd much rather make my own and use it. Plus my first real job gave me an excellent refrence.

The whole,"you seem like the kind of person they would want to hire". I was agreeing with you, because employers IME don't want lazy people.
Yes, I do. You said you were already taking another job so I didn't see a point in mentioning it. All I was saying is that in the meantime you're lucky to have a paying job, and I was simply saying this I think is a no brainer. Take the other job if it's secure and more pay, and don't rat out the old boss.
After really analyzing the situation, I realize this is right. I mean no hostility to you popinfresh. Everyone who answered, I also do not mean any hostility. I was really P/O'ed at him over homecoming, but now I could care less. He gave me a job and I am grateful. Thanks guys for helping me.
