Thanks for checking in LH! I'm a total Joe head, but Jack was great too. Different than Joe of course, but so good. I imagine playing with Floyd has got to be a blast. What a unique approach. Good old days? I guess! I'm glad I survived. Those that didn't, well that breaks my heart. Especially with all the social media now, those guys would be basking in a new kind of appreciation and notoriety. Joe, Jack, my other hero James Jamerson. Long list....

Always liked Joe Schermie's playing with TDN. One of my favorites is on the "Naturally" album, an instrumental called "Fire Eater." Great bass line! Also, you all should check out their 1969 album, "Captured Live At The Forum." It was obvious they were all kinda high, but the music was very good!

he had a great sense of timing...even when you knew what he played it was difficult to get them just so the way he did......too bad a lot of what he did got lost in the mix,especially in the hockey rinks of yore....

Three Dog Night was ubiquitous on the AM radio stations of my youth. By the time that I hit adolescence and got "musically sophisticated" with FM radio around '74/75 I started to consider them "bubblegum".
Listening back to them - damn. Good band.

I saw Jack Ryland playing with a band(not 3 dog night) in one of the casino's in Carson City way back. He knocked my socks off!!
Seemed like everybody in the band was stoned totally out of their minds. I remember the bass clef tattoo also. Seems like shortly after that I heard of his untimely death.

I joined up on Facebook, always loved these guys and always loved the bass work. So many great bass lines on just classic songs.

Thanks hotbass! For the real story, get the 7 albums on cd (5 studio, 2 live) obscenely cheap on the 'Bay. The hits were great, but there are LP tracks that just kill. Joe was great. Joe and Floyd together were sublime... ;-)

saw them about 5 times thru the 70-80's .... always liked ' One ' ' Mama Told me not to Come ' ...

always did a few of their tunes in every band I played in from 1974 - 1994 ...

So many covers that became the definitive versions: Eli's Coming, Mama Told Me Not To Come, One, maybe even Easy To Be Hard (love Jennifer Warne on that one though).
