Love Jones and Bonham. Monster pocket those guys created. Good enough for Page and Plant to wank all over in concert. 
Lemon Song is on my list of songs to learn. Haven't gotten to it yet because I know it's gonna require a lot of time in the shed.

Thanks for lucky #7. What Is And Should Never Be and Ramble On, two killer bass classics. I was working on Ramble On for a while, using the BP mag partial transcription to try and get close. I am not yet that close, lol.
But Fool In The Rain is going very well, and a new cover band I'm playing with is doing The Ocean and it has been pretty epic. There are definitely folks at every gig who are really impressed with what we do on that song. The singer isn't even trying to cop Plant, he's singing it an octave lower with a very bluesy inflection and it works great. The guitarist, myself, and the drummer are trying to hew as closely as possible to the recorded version without letting it get stiff. What fun, each of us are having our high school dreams coming true to rock that song live, lol.

John Paul is awesome, to me he ranks right up with John Entwhistle, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire to name a few for that time. In my time of Dying on a fret less or the Lemon Song , so many

I'm in as well. Can I get a number? He's probably the biggest reason I play bass at all, and I learned to play bass by learning JPJ baselines.
I flew from South Carolina to see Them Crooked Vultures in Boston, before the album was released, and I had never heard a single song of theirs before the show. Granted, I love Josh Homme as well, so it wasn't just for Jonesy. Still, that was by far the most I've ever spent to see any band. Period.

Anyway, may I have a number? John Paul Jones is my number one. I'm still in awe of his lines and immense talent every time I hear them. I don't know how he had such a natural feel for what to play where, and when not to play at all. I'll consider myself an accomplished rock-blues bass player when I can play through his catalog.

Based on some early interviews I've read, he actually used Roto flats himself (later on he denied ever using anything but rounds, lol).
Never played them myself, but from what I've heard they're really quite bright (think Roger Waters) compared to other flats. But hey, that's what tone pots are for
.
The only reason I'm not higher on this list is because I just saw this post! What a great bass player! He has written some of the best bass parts I've ever heard.
Check out this video, they have an aggressive and grindy quality that no other flats(that I know of) have. They could get you anything from a deep Lemon Song tone to a pissed of Immigrant Song sound(minus the Leslie). The Acoustic 360 amp was a big part of his sound as well, you can only get so close.
They have less output than most strings, so they do sound a tad weak in this video compared to the others tested at the same levels.
But I bet he's the only member of the band that can walk down the street today and go about his business completely unharassed by the idolatrous masses.
