John Paul Jones fan club?

What's this bass JPJ is playing:

Might be some kind of fretless? Also has anybody seen a proper pic of JPJ playing his 8-string Hagström?

I'll take the next number. Also my top inspirational figure to pick up the bass, after 25+ years of playing piano and keyboards.

Perhaps this one ?

You can only see the neck, but that's an 8-string, for sure.

The bass in the picture is hard to find. I just spent the last 40min. browsing for black hollow body basses from the early 70s, but couldn't find anything remotely similar with that huge bridge.

I way late to this party, but JPJ is probably my 2nd favorite bass player of all time, only behind Geezer. Got to see Led Zeppelin's last tour in the US in 1977, before Bonzo died. What an unbelievable show that was. If remember correctly, he played his Alembic for just about the entire concert.

Thought I'd throw this out here... what's your JPJ tone?

After countless time and $$ spent experimenting with strings, I've found that LaBella flats (760FL, 043-104) come closest to copping what I consider the classic Zeppelin bass sound, circa LZ I & II... FWIW, it's a Jazz with a maple fingerboard, both pickups dimed, tone slightly rolled off, low-mid boost on the amp EQ.

pfox14... you want a number?

If there's a JPJ fan club I'd be honestly honered. Hard to imagine anyone with a richer style, meaning if you dedicated your attention to one player's approach, the range you would cover by following just him. Unreal. In the book of music and bass A to Z. How many pages (no pun intended) did he craft?

If I could list my top influential players JPJ and Jamerson would be 1 & 2, respectively. With both of those players it is very much like going to school. I always hear something new when I listen to them. Such gifted musicians.
