John Taylor’s Concert Setup

Cheese, all I can see are dollar signs.
I bet John Taylor spent little, if anything for all of those basses.
We saw Duran Duran at Forest Hills and he was playing the Dingwall Basses. The whole band sounded amazing and the bass was pumping.

I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl a few years ago. Sounded great. Even there the bass sounded quite clear - it can be a mushy mess in that venue. Simon is also sounding excellent. Way back I always thought of him as a good "vocal stylist" but his vocals sound really strong these days. Plus, great songs, with well-written arrangements--bridges, modulations, interesting changes, with an arc to the song. Compared to the opening band that was a "modern" indie rock band with no songwriting skills, just "vibe", it made it painfully obvious how that kind of songcraft is so rare these days in rock/pop.
We were lucky to see openers.. Los Lobos and Chic… amazing night of music at a great venue.
While I always respected his playing, I was never inclined to go see the band. I did see Power Station(with Michael Des Barres fronting, did a good job), but that was primarily for openers OMD. However…I finally heard(but not actually saw)them two years ago at Pasadena’s Cruel World festival.
I say heard, as the keyboard player from my old 80’s band, who now lives in Amsterdam, had come over for the event, and right before their set had a medical emergency. Poor kid, she’s several years younger than me, but has all sorts of health problems, in fact part of her trip was to check in with a specialist at Cedars. Anyway, my wife and I got her to the med tent, but I wasn’t going to be a schmuck and run off. From a distance they sounded fantastic, though.

He was probably the biggest endorser of the brand new range from Trace Elliot, but I guess that's going back a few years now, given that I think one of the last times I saw him using them was at The Queen's birthday gig on The Mall, and, well, she hasn't been around for a little while.
I had to laugh when I think of a previous 'Rig Rundown' JT actually did himself years ago, back in the Cirrus days. He was showing the guys the axes in his traveling rack, and he came to the natural StingRay that had belonged to Bernard Edwards he'd been gifted after Bernard passed.
He went to explain he had really been sentimental about it as it still had the strings on it from the last time Bernard used it . . . . but somewhere along the tour, his tech as a matter of routine re-strung it ! !
