Joined my first band - at age 37 !

Title is a little misleading. I played double bass in bluegrass bands in my late teens. Then moved to electric, played a little here and there @ home over the years. Got somewhat serious with it a couple years ago. I started looking for a band almost a year ago. Didn`t want anything major; just a gig here and there when life allowed. Finally met a group of guys my age, in my situation. Learned 15 songs over the last couple weeks, went and auditioned the other night = nailed the tunes. Had the email when I got home - "you`re in" ! :hyper: Even though my deal is very small potatoes, it`s exactly what I was looking for, therefore, I`m excited ! Never too old ...

Dude great for you, this is what music and life is all bout having fun and making it work for you, and you are correct you are never too old, especially when you want it bad, congrats.

I'm 46, and in my 1st band in over 20-some years, but never previously anything really good. So sort of the same situation I guess.

This band means a lot to me. Yes, I love playing music, but that's just the half of it. The guys (and gal) I play with really do help keep me sane. They're awesome human beings, and I love playing with them. We're just a classic rock type cover band, but if I do say so myself, we're pretty good. We've been together now for a year and a half (just 2.5-3 months with our current singer) and we're out trying to get booked now.... we're talking dates with one place, and feel confident we can do more.

Anyway, my point isn't to talk about me. My point is to say it IS inspiring to hear others talk about getting out there at a bit later age. Best of luck out there to you pnut!

I bet you are having a blast. I started playing bass 3 years ago and joined my first band in May. First gig was in June. We now play out about twice a month.

Guitarist and drummer have been playing for 25+ years so every tune we add to the set list is one that I finally worked out. They have a *huge* set of tunes, been in multiple bands, worked the casino circuit, ... Every rehearsal is like a lesson-hard but very rewarding.

I played trumpet in high school but that was over 30 years ago. I can't even remember being 37.
