Just throwing this out there: is anyone else somewhat disappointed that the OP never came back with pictures of the cliche-draining Hellborg setup? He has exactly 6 posts to his name, the last of which was entered three and one half months ago...

Two out of thousands that you just happened upon? I doubt it. Odds are that of the "thousands" of products there are many that you didn't try that are as good or better.
I've tried a lot of gear looking for stuff that was lighter than an SVT but still had the sound. Never found anything that came close that didn't have tubes in it, and even those hybrid designs didn't get it.

So name me a few products that get it, and I'll let you know if I tried them.

He probably got sick of people criticising his judgement, telling him he paid too much and suggesting he should have bought something else.

There are different levels of Neve design:

Designed by Rupert Neve: The pinnacle, it means that the circuit was designed by the great man himself.

Based on a Neve design: Lots of coils and transformers.

Inspired by Neve designs: The endorser fondly remembers Neve consoles.

Influenced by Neve designs: We once looked up some Neve schematics online.

:D:D:D:D

As good as Neve designs: Once passed RUPERT NEVE on the Freeway.

I dont know about buying something else but I do find it hard to believe there is that kind of money inside of one of those boxes.

If he is that thin skinned he shouldnt have posted in the first place.

BTW I hope those products are the best Bass Gear ever produced. :bassist:

So you're saying you are in some way ahead of him?:hmm:

Look you are not allowed to sell yourself or parts of yourself through regular legal channels. This shameless plug to up your sale value is mistaken, obvious and actually disgusting on so many levels.
In any case a picture is worth more for product endorsement than adding his name however famous to your resume'.

SLN Designs...

Smells Like Neve!

There are SO many {NEVE} strips out there now it's just mind boggling, as I found out when I tried to pick out a preamp for my IP stack. Talked to a brilliant amp tech that I know and use, and he said there's less than $400.00 worth of parts in most of them, the most expensive usually being the fancy front panel and knobs. And they sell them for $3,000.00+

That's why there's so many on the market.

Finally made my choice; Summit Audio. Sonically unique in the field, and comparatively inexpensive. And once again I should have just listened to Tom Bowlus.

Dying to hear his reviews of this Warwick monster amp, and how it compares to the IP's with a great preamp. And I would be really curious as to how this preamp sounds with an IP.

Cheers,
Cameron

Oh, he's gone on at great length about how the Ampeg SVX software is indistinguishable from the real thing, which means any laptop can sound just like tubes to him.

Peavey revalver - even better.
But plenty of free or low cost plugins are available. For the tube sound, There isn't anything that can't be duplicated.

PS - updated ignore list. Great feature of this board and keeps out the back and forth petty bickering when alternate opinions are presented.

I'm suppose to name products and then you go "no it doesn't" - pretty stupid.
In thousands of recordings hardware and plugins are being used to authentically duplicate tube sound and produce sounds that tubes are incapable of. Deny it all you want, it's happening.
It has only been happening for about a year or two and only a small handful of products have been able to achieve it. I have yet to see it happen in plugin form. The plugins are good, but they ain't tubes.

Lots of people at all levels recording with plugins for years now. Perhaps this is happening with Revalver or some other tube plugin in places now. Someone who has something to prove should find some examples perhaps, from one of the trade mags online or in print.
