With apologies to the Ramsey family, I'm sure ALL of us are breathing a big sigh of relief today now that they finally caught this guy. And when they catch that Natalie Holloway killer I'm sure all of us will rest easier. All though Greta Van Sustran will be unemployed! Damn, even the local Detroit News broadcast are giving us wall to wall Jonbenet!

I'm sure their are no little missing girls in Detroit this week. And I'm sure that thousands of little girls that are Jonbenets age will starve to death this week though out the world. I don't get this fascination, is it just me?
:help:

You're not suggesting that it's not important that he be caught. There are a lot of aspects to this story.

Child murder.
The argument for/against child beauty pageants.
The ongoing suspicion of the parents (until today)

This case spawned a lot of discussion in a lot of different areas, not just relating to the actual crime.

I think that for all the blame and suspicion that has been heaped on the parents, this heavy coverage is a way to at least TRY to undo some of the damage to the family's reputation.

Turn off the TV, take a walk, read a book or whatever.

ETA: Upon reading some of the news articles that have been released today, I'm not convinced they have the guy who did it. He sounds like a sick freak who wants attention and was unhealthily obsessed with the case, but something about the case doesn't add up.

Hold on there fellas.....
According the Colorado police "your suspect is NOT charged w/ Murder of jonbenet and is still presumed innocent". (aug 17 1056am MST)
He has told his complete story-w/o being charged and why?

Next his story is becoming very suspicious- he claims to have drugged her, had his way and then accidentlly strangled her. According to toxicology reports there were NO drugs found in her body. So already his story is NOT checking out.
The police are refusing to answer whether they think this guy is lying.
I'm holding all reservation until we know whats really going on, or until he is formally charged.

He does look like a weirdo, but that's just my impression. I never heard about the "three names" thing, but now that you mention it...

I followed the case at first, but not very closely. I do remember there being a lot of criticism of the local police department regarding the way they handled the investigation.

Can anbody explain what the local police failed to do correctly, or overlooked when they were first investigating this crime?

And yes, I can't wait for the Natalie Holloway case to be solved; that case is dripping with major coverup! :spit:

As I mentioned above, this guys story is NOT adding up.

Expert: 'Do we have a wack-job or a murderer?'

Now the guy claims to have picked up jonbenet from school the day she was murdered, only problem was she was on school vacation. He has also declined to tell folks how he got into the house.

This guy is looking for 15mins of fame and a free ticket back to the US to ellude his problems in Thailand

I just feel bad for the parents of the hundreds or thousands of other kids who are missing and who aren't rich white blond-haired blue-eyed beauty pageant winners.

I feel bad for ALL parents of the hundreds or thousands of other kids who are missing REGARDLESS of whether they are rich white blond-haired blue-eyed beauty pageant winners.

There. I just one-upped your compassion level for missing kids. Now, do I feel righteous! I don't even have contempt for the Ramseys just because they're upper-class! :spit:

It doesn't matter if the parents have a penny to their names or if they're Bill Gates. Losing a kid is the worst nightmare of ANY parent.

That does sound kind of fishy. :hmm:

If they do extradite this guy to the US, only to find that he's lying about the JonBenet case, wouldn't they just send him back to Thailand, or does it get more complicated?

Caught or not - sexualizing children with "child beauty pageants" is wrong on every level imagniable. Children are at risk as it is from pediphiles and other weirdos without the added attention and "hyper-sexualization" these pageants bring.

Parents (mothers) who support and encourage this sort of thing need help - serious psychiatric help. Why would any parent turn their beloved child into a slab of meat to be judged by the most superficial an meaningless "standards" imaginable? What are they trying to tell these poor, impressionable kids?

"It's all about how you look, baby. Here, put on my eye shadow, you don't look enough like a hooker yet. Hey, Bob, can we get little suzy a boob job? Imagine the advantage an 8-year old with boobies would have!"

I am sad for the Ramsey family - I cannot imagine what they went through - and I don't want to even try.

regardless, I am disguseted by child beauty pageants. They should be as illegal as cock fighting and dog fighting.

My 1st impression was directly from the sub-plot from Minority Report...some schlub is taking the fall for a child's murder so his family can be richly compensated.
I guess I need to lay off the X-Files' DVDs for awhile, huh?

Occam's Razor.
It will take a lot more than this to make me believe the Ramseys aren't involved.

Beauty pagents in general are creepy, but for children? The parts that I saw (her/his story was on the news) it looked like she was trying to act like an adult in them. So you have a little child in a beauty pagent acting like an adult. The parents should be charged as sex offenders.
