I think it works out better if you're into cranked tones. Like setting one clean and the other dirty, or using a booster or second dirty preamp to kick your first preamp into high gear. But stacking clean preamp on top of clean preamp gets redundant.

Sorry didn't get a chance to run her in to my SVT. Just didn't have the time or energy to bring big'un upstairs. Maybe this weekend.

On another note I played Monique today with the GK MB800. Pretty damn good combo in my book. Might be racking the MB and let it power this beastly pre for a time or two.

Kinda depends (as Jimmy alluded) on how the pre-amps are designed. One can design to pass clean tones within a large range or a narrow range. It is when those ranges overlap and the gain is substantial that things get mudish and one loses definition.

For any preamp to "show it's stuff" it is happier going into an amp post pre-amp/EQ/what-ever-else and directly into the power section. Doesn't mean it is always bad going straight into the instrument input either. It is just that with more in the signal chain some individuality is not retained.

And BassDoubler (who has very fun new CD out on Itunes!) was probably using his original Monique that did not have the current ability to drive that Return loop as well as she does today. ??

Started tracking preproduction for a new album tonight so first time running direct with Monique. Did the main bass line with the Rob Allen, then Fodera MGS for comping and head. Sounds incredibly sweet (except for some tuning and other operator error :D). Only thing that doesn't have "the sound" is the canned drum loop. Maybe I should run that out and through Monique as well...

Why not? Bet it would sound better that way than going right to the board with it.

At the risk of sounding jingoistic, when the De-Monique power amp comes in, the rig will be all built by small US businesses (Jule, Demeter, Baer). Then I'm running Rob Allen, Fodera, and Lull basses through them, with FEA Labs, Boomerang, 3Leaf, Aguilar, Sonic Research, and Strymon pedals. I think my only off-shore things are Jam Pedals (Greece), Boss looper and the Eventide I suspect is made overseas. I'm doing my part to stimulate the economy :D

Monique and Baer sound really sweet together! I did a reggae gig last night and the sound with those two, with the assistance of my Walter Woods are just awesome. Used the Lull M4V for this one too.

Hopefully, when I get back in town after New Years, I can stop by Jule's shop and give the Demeter a try with the rig. I have a feeling I'll be adding that and putting the GB 9.2 max up for sale!

Now I find myself desiring and craving a monique......Jules, you probably have a PM or phone call coming......and you can thank Mike for bringing his Monique to me......about a 2.25 hour drive for him. What a GREAT product!!!!!!!

We had a blast trying out different basses with Monique. I was using the Crown XTI2000 power amp bridged 4ohm into a 215 Mesa. Had a HPF on at 32hz Link Reily to tighten the low end and -3 limiter set. Anyone else experimented further with the DSP setting and different software. I was using Band Manger 2.0.

So Todd, you've done it again, I fell for your trap and have a Monique on order. I can't give you all the credit though, chatting with Jule on the phone and through email confirmed my suspicions that Jule is really passionate about what he does, extremely knowledgeable, and just a really nice guy. As I pestered him with questions about "why this" and "what about that" he answered them all and everything about his design has a specific reason. Great chatting with you Jule, can't wait to hear Monique for myself. I'm going to be pretty busy in January with Monique showing up, my monarch, and another big e cab. :)

I live to serve. :D

I'm pretty vocal about my stuff and while there are guys here who can play rings around me, I'm serious about my craft, study, and play out a lot. And the overarching reason is that I'm passionate about music. In a cookie-cutter world, it is nice to find artisans out there who are also passionate about their craft, and who make tools motivated by the art and passion rather than the number of units moved. Jule is clearly one of those artisans, as are the Fodera crew.

I have nothing against production stuff, and a lot of players can't or won't spend big money on gear - I get that. I'm in a position, by a combination of luck and hard work, to be able to dedicate resources to chase a tone and feel that helps music come through me. And when I find something that makes me want to pick up the instrument and play, I'll usually tell that story as I think that's why a lot of people are here at TB.

Right on Todd, I think we have the same mantra, whatever it is that inspires me to practice more and play more (gear wise), its worth it. I hope Monique does this for me as well. Also I love chatting with the man who's hand making my gear, another plus.

Yeah, but you take your time and really take gear thru its paces before recommending or gushing about a product. Your insight has been very useful for me and I am sure many other TBers. Great detail and you know what you are talking about.

TB is full of too many people posting "OMG OMG OMG... I am NEVER buying another ...insert product here... In my life".... Then of course selling/trading it the following week because they no longer like it.:spit::D

Seems that the Monique really fits a need and/or the satisfaction of a long sought after quest. It has so much of the best of the great amps of the past.

I played them all when new and they each had something and were missing something else. Here appears Monique with so much possible tonal variation with organic like control and the freedom to run it through whatever form of watts you want. Next it's just so lucious in the Studio delivering amp sound from a pre.

Jule delivered what his print says. I have to thank our first poster for bringing the word.
Through out all the threads and PMs no one who has played it has ever said that its features or richness have been exaggerated.

Well, I've certainly gushed over some stuff I ended up selling, but I've sold a lot of great stuff :D

I've been working on trying to write some stuff for an album with my new sparse lineup (vox/sax/bass/drums) and have a bunch of grooves but nothing definitive. I finally have some days off from the day job so Wed I cleaned the bathroom and wrote a new tune (not sure they are connected). I was trying to write a "jazz standard", which means I'm pretty much just borrowing. I typically write on a looper pedal which is great for ideas, not great for sending to other members of the band. So I did a first studio session with Monique, running direct into my Saffire, then to my laptop. This is a rough mix and everything was one take just to get a form down and general idea of a head (which will be sax, along with the solos). Main bass line is the Rob Allen, everything else is Fodera MGS. The only tweaking was a bit of bass rolloff on the RA and a compressor on the main when I bounced. So it is bass to Monique to computer. Forgive the rambling solo and some tuning issues - hey, it's preproduction :D
