I played them all when new and they each had something and were missing something else. Here appears Monique with so much possible tonal variation with organic like control and the freedom to run it through whatever form of watts you want. Next it's just so lucious in the Studio delivering amp sound from a pre.

Jule delivered what his print says. I have to thank our first poster for bringing the word.
Through out all the threads and PMs no one who has played it has ever said that its features or richness have been exaggerated.

I agree that there needs to be more bass, but maybe it needs less guitar or keyboard. Is there a keyboard doubling (or doing counterpoint) the bass line during the verse? I think that is part of what is pulling away from the bass presence in the mix. You could turn the bass up, but then it would be a volume war. I'd suggest if that keyboard line is going to be in there, then it needs to be dead-nuts a double of the bass line. The great LA producers used to double guitar and bass to great effect back in the day (Steely Dan did it a lot) but the timing was spot-on.

Or I'm hearing things :D

This is just a feeble attempt to learn Monique and how it does with my Spector's and Pro Tools. I am by no means a recording superstar as you guys are hearing. My guitar player sent me the tracks with just guitar, drums and keys. He said he used keys to help him along because there was no bass yet. Now that I sent him the bass, he's dropping the keys as we have none in the band.

The purpose of these demos is to send to our new producer so he can "get a vibe" for the music before we head into the studio. I was just excited how good the bass sounded through Monique so I wanted to pass it on. With good cans the bass seems to be at a good level to me. On my laptop, not so much.

ah, gotcha. If the keys go away then the bass will sound very different. Cool vibe on the track, there's just a lot going on so it is easy for bass to lose in the mix. Laptop speakers alway fail - that's why I used my regular cans and could hear the keyboard line separate from the bass.

Monique does kill as a recording front end.

So I had another live show with Monique last night, this time with the live band karaoke thing. No FOH for bass, covered the gig with Monique into the Puma 500 into a single Baer ML112. We have over 300 songs on the list, from 50's rock to current pop. This club tends to be more of a classic rock crowd so I got to channel some of tube era doing Paranoid, Immigrant Song, etc. Used the Lull J bass every song but one which was a good choice if for no other reason that our first set was over 2.5 hours long, then a 10 min break, then another almost 2 hour set until last call. Anyone who says light basses don't make a difference (the Lull is 7.8 lbs) doesn't do long sets. Or they don't have years of accumulated wear and tear on joints. Getting old sucks :D

Anywho, click on the Aguilar Agro and I was happily grinding away. Monique really takes the Agro well - not a hint of harshness. Add some analog chorus - youza. I didn't really do much knob twiddling. Dialed up a bit of mids on Monique to help me hear myself through a dense mix with the J bass. Eq is in the right spot to help with that. I can honestly say that I'm probably more satisfied with my sound at the moment than any time in the past few years. I think the Monique/Baer combination is a really good match, especially for more rock type stuff. I do have two other cabs being built that are targeted a bit more towards the hi-fi end of the spectrum. Interested to see how those work out. I ordered those pre-Monique...

7.8 lbs for a Lull Jazz? Hmmm...Bet he could do a Precision even lighter. Dare I broach it with the wife, who already gave me the business once this week for hinting at a new bass?
