Junk

I am P.O'd.

I got one of those Behringer BDI 21 bass drivers in late December. I've only used it perhaps 20 times, at home, never on a gig.

Now the in and out jacks are worn out, wont hold the cord plugs tightly, and the thing won't even turn on. I just put a new battery in it, so its not a dead battery.

Junk.

Did you not learn not to buy anything from that drummer yet?

Well, any chance that I just got a particularly bad one?

Reason I ask is, I just called the store I bought it from and they offered to exchange it for a new one, no problem. He said they haven't had much trouble with these. I would rather just get store credit, maybe they will do that instead.

I guess I could always use a set and a half of strings, or 1,237 guitar picks.

I was thinking that maybe, with store credit, I would trade up to a Digitech Bass Squeeze compressor, but that pedal gets mixed reviews.

I'm not going to sit here and say that Behringer is a paragon of reliability or anything, but I will say that I've had a BDI21 for over a year, gigged with it, dropped it, and never had a problem. I may be the unique one, I don't know. But to me it seems like the sturdiest pedal they sell. Which may be damning with faint praise, but I want to avoid saying anything too positive, considering the general view of Behringer around here.

Hey thank you for that. Makes me feel a little better about it. That you've had one for over a year, no problems. I suppose I could exchange it and see how long the next one lasts. I mean, the money is already spent one way or the other.

All meaningless speculation on my part, but I wonder if Behringer sourced a different jack from a different manufacturer, mine being the the bad one. Not kidding, my jacks are worn out, will not hold an instrument cable securely, and I've used it maybe 20 times, at home.

I've been using mine since last summer. I haven't abused it but I haven't babied it, either. Sounds great and no issues at all.

Seems kinda harsh to condemn the whole company just because you got one bad pedal. But then again, Behringer bashing is the popular thing to do around here.

I don't recall condemning the whole company. I called this particular pedal that I own junk, which it is. I questioned the quality of the parts used in it also. If I exchange it and have no problems with the new one, I'll post that as well.

Why are you complaining about behringer? If something breaks and it isn't your fault, and sometimes if it is your fault, they'll replace it free! It's because behringer are the largest producing company in the world, they can afford to replace things. I have a heap of behringer stuff ad it's all fine, especially my pro bass v-amp

Yeah, I think you nailed it. Never buy another Behringer product again.

I wanted the Sansamp BDDI you know, but that was $200, so I thought this would get me by for a while. And I guess it got me by for a while. But come on, how does this company even stay in business, if this is representative of their products' reliability? What kind of metal do they use in those jacks? Tin foil? Its not hard to build a jack that will last. There are millions of them in old guitars, amps & effects, and they seldom fail. Oh, but most companies don't use the old tried and true Switchcraft-type jacks nowadays. They use those plastic-housed piece-O-crap jacks just so they can attach it to a printed circuit board and save a precious few minutes of production time.

Junk

Sorry, Busker, but the above quote, as well as several others in this thread, looked like condemning the whole company. It sure sounds like you got a crappy pedal but based on the first hand experience of myself and a few others here, I'd suggest exchanging it for a new one and give it another shot. Realistically, no company in the world could stay in business if it made products that consistently failed after only a month of regular use. Hopefully your next experience will be better.

Well, not to be a dissenter, but... I bought a Behringer AC112 guitar amp from MF on close out a couple years ago. It was cheap, like $149 or something. I've always really liked it - some decent digital effects, pretty good clean and distortion tones w/ a 12ax7 in the preamp. Pretty versatile and nice sound. The only problem is the jensen speaker started buzzing (I think there's quality problems with the Jensens, a friend of mine w/ the same amp had his go too...) but they sent a new one out to me based on an email and proof it was still under warranty.

So, maybe not the greatest stuff in the world, but I'm not displeased...

I owe Behringer an apology in this case.

I exchanged the aforementioned "defective" pedal for a new one, because it seemed the jacks were worn out. The new one was OK for several days, then the same thing, the plug would slip out of the jack.

But!

The problem was not in the pedal itself. It was in one of my instrument cables. Both cables I was using appeared to be in fine shape, however, the one cable plug's were made slightly shorter than the other (I thought all of these were made to exact standards, but evidently they can vary a millimeter or two in length). The shorter plugged cable was not locking in well (it would appear to work OK at first, then after numerous plug-in and outs it would not hold).

Not Behringer's fault.

I bought new plug ends for the cable, ones that are slightly longer and fit better.

Sorry Behringer.

Behringer sucks.
