I vowed that if I were to ever get a jazz bass, it would be olympic white, all black hardware (including the chrome cover), and this pickguard.

I was noodling around on this bass last night and was thinking the exact same thing. It looks real cool and clean at this point. As I was setting it down in the stand, it hits me...a floorboard unit that has all the bass' passive controls and switches! I'm going to give it some more thought this week.
The switching options right now are staggering, actually. Each of the J pups are a side-by-side humbucker, as is obviously the P pup. So with the B-E string pair and the A-D string pair each getting their own coils at each pup location, that opens up the number of coil combination sounds to 49, and that's without any phase or series/parallel switches. The only real-world advantage I see with this is if I use split-fretboard playing most of the time like Roscoe, et al.
On the other hand, "keep it simple, stupid" is probably the route I'll take.

Jeez...finally, finally, finally done. Amazing how things in life force other things to the back burner. Anyway, for the controls, I went with a stacked 500kA for master volume and tone and two 3-way toggles for pickup selection. The back 3-way selects which J-pup is on, and the front 3-way combines whatever that selection is with the P-pup. The cap is a NOS Sprague disc. I couldn't be happier with this thing...
Clips? All I have at the house right now is a Bass Pod that's in the closet. Doubt that will do it justice...
