its not going to cost much to repair I know that. It STILL doesn't make it right to sell someone somehting and lie about its condition.

And the reason I made this thread is because its my first bass and has sentimental value; and THATS why I haven't returned it yet and why I'm not going to return it.

bassbenj, I can see you have an opinion on the matter, and I would appreciate it if didn't try to push your point.

Now please don't take this the wrong way as You're among the very few people of your age group that has the balls to put their age on the personal profile.

The fact is that stuff like this will come to Your way sooner or later, and if you don't mind me saying, it took quite a long time for you to discover the reality of trading used stuff. I was about 8 or 9 when I was shafted, or more nicely put mislead, for the first time.

Did I learn from that, HELL YEAH.
Did I think that it's the standard way of doing things, HELL NO.

Honesty goes a long way, but so does knowing Your stuff.
And that includes inspecting the merchandise, or allowing the buyer to inspect it if You're the seller. Even if that means shipping the item somewhere.

As for the jack plate, if it's a jack plate and not a barrell jack, take a piece of plastic and drill/carve a new one, no biggie.

Do take care when dealing with this friend of yours in the future though. Fooled You once, might try his luck again...

I can get a new grover jack plate for $6 and I can easily install it myself.

Guess Im just too trustworthy of my "friends". That leaves my used gear score as Good experience 1, Bad experience 1.

I think the key to the question is in your first statement; "I bought my bass back for $100." .......... It was yours then someone else's when you sold it then yours again when you bought it back. ....... Didn't you try it before you bought it back? ....... I'd suck it up and learn from it. ...... Plus it's only a huny-bucks.

That's the funniest thing I read on here for a while. Plus it's true. ...... But if you do drink and bid keep your bids down to the cash you have in your pocket or at least you can raise in an hours time.

That or said it yourself that it wasn't something easily seen. Maybe it happened recently,put the bass down too far and it broke the plate and didn't know about it. Either way talk to him,and get over the fact that he didn't tell you. What's done is done. People will do alot of things dishonest when it comes to money,even more so when it's a teenager who probably has no job,100 bucks is a good amount of cash. It's the truth and the real world,welcome to it.

I would mention it to the guy and leave it at that. A character revelation like that is priceless, and you got the heads-up before you trusted him with something that really matters.

No it's not okay to do that and I think you're missing the point.

You're placing blame on the seller, no matter what you say or do it is not his fault you bought the bass. You have to blame yourself for not looking the bass over carefully enough to notice the damage.

Use it as a learning experience for next time.

You paid $100 (ONE HUNDRED) for your old bass from a friend and there's one tiny issue? Who cares, its $100, not like you paid $500 for a bass with a broken neck or anything. Get over it.
