Just crowning?

I've been checking out my bass in detail today. The neck and action are really good but still there's fret buzz. I laid out my bass, took the strings off, adjusted the truss, and checked the levels of the frets. Everything seems very even. I have noticed though that my frets seem to be quite flat. Could simply recrowning the frets fix my buzz problem?

I think if you were going to all the trouble of crowning & polishing you'd be crazy not to level the frets first. However the flatness of the frets is probably not the cause of your buzzing.

Your frets most likely need to be leveled, not crowned.

Checking fingerboards for flatness without string tension is a lesson in futility.
