Just ditched FF for Chrome

OK, so I'm using Iron on my new PC, and it's definitely fast; but the controls, plugins, and other options are nowhere near as easy to find, install, or use as the ones for FF. I guess it will just be a matter of time, as the product matures and develops.

A link for your enjoyment:

My Firefox browser was reporting a measly 1938 on this benchmark (see link). I upgraded to Opera, then Chrome and tweaked a bit. With Chrome, it was 6030, roughly three times faster. Because of privacy concerns, I tried Iron. It is less than 1% lower on the benchmark than Chrome. Fast. Very fast.

I also hand-selected DNS servers because the ISP's DNS servers were much toooooo sloooooow. Now almost any site loads within a fraction of a second! Iron is still a bit too immature and does not have a lot of plugins that I used with Firefox, so I'll use Iron for browsing and Firefox or one of the others, Konqueror, Seamonkey, Epiphany, Opera, or Chrome as I see fit. I run Ubuntu 64bit AMD 10.04 LTS.

I had the same problem. I thought it had to go in front of the quote marks. Go to the right of the quote marks, hit the space bar once and then put in --bookmark-menu . Hit Apply then restart the browser.

How did you set up the Ad Block?

Thanks for the tip on the quotes, I should have thought of that.

I took the defaults for AdBlock when it installed.

I ran across an issue today with a JavaScript not working properly. I didn't have time to troubleshoot, so I ran it in IE compat mode. I'll have to check later tonight what the actual issue is.

For the IT geeks, here is what was going on. I was connecting remotely to a customers VM farm via Juniper TS Client. Juniper has a Host Checker tool it runs like other security apps. Iron was not allowing the Host Checker to install properly, and it looks like it was somehow related to the JavaScript it initiates.

Updated to 8.0.555.0 tonight. I thought I would be slick and uninstall the old version first. Bad idea. Along with removing the app, it wiped out my favorites, password cache, and form data.

I have a saying.

Firefox is for the masses, Opera is for the elite.

I have tried Chrome.....HATED IT!!!
Opera uses far less resources, even with extensions. Hell things like adblock have been built into Opera for quite some time now.
Also doing an unistall-reinstall doesn't delete everything.

I was thrilled once I've seen AdBlock for Chrome.. But needs no-script too before I'd switch.

What I use a lot in Firefox is the difference between an "I'm feeling lucky" search if I type something in the url field, and a regular google search when typed the search field. Is it possible to config Chrome/Iron to do an "I'm feeling lucky" by default, and a regular google search if I prefix the search with a 'g'?
