Just Finished Nut For My SX

So I just finished my nut for my new SX, Ive got no idea what wood it is as I just found the blank lying around ( a local luthier around my area let me have a whole bunch of wood nut blanks he didn't need), so my question is how bad would it be if I left it unfinished, ive seen what humidity and moisture can do to wood, but on something this small would it be too much of an issue, and if I do finish it what would be an ideal finish (I really don't want to use Poly on something this small, maybe some wax :confused:)

Any raw wood will change in some manner, unless you keep it in a humidor. Gotta put something on it. A small piece like that, soak it in tung oil for a bit, and be done with it.
 
Who would have known that with a bit of tung oil even a nut could be considered a very nice cosmetic upgrade :D, for your viewing pleasure:

Just need to get all those nasty high frets leveled and some GHS boomers and it'll be set :bassist:
