Just Finished Nut For My SX

So I just finished my nut for my new SX, Ive got no idea what wood it is as I just found the blank lying around ( a local luthier around my area let me have a whole bunch of wood nut blanks he didn't need), so my question is how bad would it be if I left it unfinished, ive seen what humidity and moisture can do to wood, but on something this small would it be too much of an issue, and if I do finish it what would be an ideal finish (I really don't want to use Poly on something this small, maybe some wax )

It would be dependant on how hard the wood is. Most bridges on acoustics are not finished. Many fingerboards are unfinished. I would just oil it well.

If you do your best to avoid playing in major downpours, and also seldom submerge your bass in the bathtub or backyard pool, no finish should be required.

I've heard most say that even the smallest waxing hurts. But they have it done anyway's when bikini season arrives.

Seriously I would just shine it up with some oil. Any oil made for wood like boiled linseed oil, or oil sold for fingerboards.

Well this guide does not call for it, it calls for sandpaper wrapped around fingers

A good heat gun might do the trick

Any raw wood will change in some manner, unless you keep it in a humidor. Gotta put something on it. A small piece like that, soak it in tung oil for a bit, and be done with it.

I have a set of very small German detail files and they work just fine for fretwork. I would prefer a specialy file for frets but I don't really need one.

Who would have known that with a bit of tung oil even a nut could be considered a very nice cosmetic upgrade , for your viewing pleasure:

Just need to get all those nasty high frets leveled and some GHS boomers and it'll be set
