Just got an Ampeg SVT-CL...

Recently came into some money I wasn't expecting - decided it was high time to get an Ampeg SVT-CL. Wow. Staggering amplifier. Paired with an Ampeg 410HLF it's comfortably the best sounding setup I've ever had and likely ever will have. I'm in love.

I've lurked on TalkBass for a while but very a rarely post; I see Ampeg getting a bit of a bashing at times so I thought I'd show some affection for them.

Also, hello. I'm Andy, nice to speak to you all.

For certain situations, flagships are much better than the lightweight stuff! ;)

Hehe...the only thing that sounds better than an SVT through a 4 10 is an SVT through an 8 10. What... wait.....somebody doesn't agree??? I'll have to ask my ears about that. ............OK , I asked my ears...... they don't care what somebody else thinks. Sorry , they are my ears and permanently attached to me so I'm kind of stuck with their opinion.;)

Haha. Used to have a 610, liked it but ditched it for the last tour just to travel slightly lighter. Funnily enough though, the only thing holding me back from an 810 my car size, won't fit unfortunately.

Arena or jam session: Got my SVT Cl USA last week. Goes with Quilters 800 and Microtubes 900 and DNA 1350, with 112, 210, Glasstone and old Mesa 1516.
Now, just need a truck and 2 guys 30 years younger than me to move the big guns and I'll deal with the 30 pounders. Oh, and a band...and some talent.
However, I do have a lotta watts and a lotta weight. Doesn't that count for something?

With the SVT-CL, try the amp with the master on full and use the gain to control the level.

The master is an attenuator at the end of the preamp, before the power amp. By cranking the master, it removes the attenuation, uncomplicating the signal path. I feel that this adds bit of clarity, making the amp more sonically like an SVT-VR.

Something to experiment with.

Sure I've seen JimmyM mention this before - will give that a go later. Thanks for the info on how that changes the signal path though. Had always been wary of cranking masters in case it damaged the output stage.

Do you happen to know if this is the same for the V-4B? I use a lot of effects and I'd like to have the most clear signal path for my Darkglass B7K and fuzzes to go over the top of.
