I put a pair of Eminence Deltalite II 2515s in and a metal cup with Speakons. Weighs MUCH less, sounds 300% better, and handles a lot more power.

IHMO, the old drivers aren't worth saving neither is the cab.

The Delta Lite II 2515 (really all the Delta Lite IIs) is an excellent driver. Can't hang with the very best, but just a notch down. And not 100% sure, but likely at least as good as whatever is used in the very top-of-the-line commercially available cabs.

Tremendous bang for the buck.

That would be your opinion - I happen to disagree, and will state my case:

The PH215 is arguably one of the best 215s on the market - and I can tell you from experience that it can't hang with the PH810 it's next to... In fact, other than a 1515/66, there isn't a 215 on the market that can hang with the PH810...

I would love to see a shoot out between the PH 810 and a 3015 or Faital pro loaded Dually.

I'd be interested in that - the PH810 is a real beast: not only does it move alot of air, it puts out a ton of low end... My band is really loud - I have a Triple Rec halfstack on either side of me - and I've never been able to even approach half volume with my M-p 600/PH810 rig... I typically set my Pre Gain @ 1 o'clock, and run my Master Volume between 9-10 o'clock... I've never been able to run my Master volume over 10 o'clock w/out being asked to turn down, right away!!!

Hey, I like a good 215 as much as anyone, but Joe's blanket statement is flat out wrong, IME... I've played 215s by Mesa, Ampeg, SWR, TE, Eden, Peavey - and probably a whole lot more that I'm not remembering at the moment - and IME, the PH810 and SWR's Megoliath will crush any of those 215s - it's not even close... Although I haven't played one, I would imagine that Basson's 810 would do the same - and Peavey's 810TVX and Eden's 810xlt would fare well, too...

I think the newer, improved 215 designs are everything we used to like about 215's and then some. A Faital loaded Dually is so amazing for that.

I'll be touring a Fearless215 when we get back to the States. The backline company in Europe sent me an Ampeg 410...NOT happy about this :(

+1. Thanks for the correction - that is more accurate. For example, checkout JohnK 10’s Starliner 215 thread - JohnK says his Starliner’s will spank his Ampeg 810. And I’d also like to see a shootout between the Mesa PH810 and the Barefaced Super Fifteen or Dually.

If you have 10s with an xmax of at least 60% of 15s, an 8x10 will move more air than a 2x15. There are so many other considerations, like driver sensitivity and tuning that could totally derail the subject :)

But... that PH 810 has many other 810 cabs beat just in the fact that it is ported (capable of more SPL). Maybe Joe is just considering sealed 810s.

Anyway...I like 15s because I can have a 2x15" cab at less than half the weight of that PH810 and still have plenty of room even with my loudest band. Even btter with a 3-way system as you gain the benefits of smaller drivers (as noted previously) while still keeping the benefits of the 15s.

First amp- 1966 B15N.
Then.
Ampeg B25B / matching 2x15 cab.
Acoustic 370 / 2x15 cab.
Ampeg SVT / Ampeg 2x15 cab.
Aggie AG500 / two DB 1x15 cabs.
Right now.
Genez Benz Streamliner 600 / Schroeder 2x15 cab.
Pignoise 100V / Schroeder 15L cab (Small gigs)

Flatwounds and 15's are the starting point to my tone.

I'd guess the same, although a Basson 810 requires a lot of power to get loud at all. But that's not the case with the rest of them.

My own estimation would put a good 2x15 at about the same volume as a 6x10, maybe. Then again, with 2x15 cabs there's a lot of variation in drivers used and size, so some are much louder than others.

I’ve always liked Mesa Boogie and I bet the PH810 is a monster cab but driver for driver 10s can’t keep up with good 15s and I don’t like 3-way cabs for bass guitar and I hate tweeters. No crossovers to fry or little squeaker/tweeters spitting out unwanted freq.‘s for me - I want bass, and personally I like 15s best.

15’s Rule!!! :D

No prob - Ampeg 810s are all about mids and low mids, and there's nothing wrong with that - but they cannot compete with a good ported 810 in regards to volume and low end, so I can see how you'd make that assumption, given your experience...

Your estimation matches my experience - I used to own a PH610, and used a Goliath Sr(SWR 610) all the time, and I'd say they were about equal to a *good* ported 215, whereas the ported 810s by Mesa and SWR will smoke any production 215...

Now, the newer "custom built" 215s with 3015LFs or Faitals are a whole new ballgame, from what I understand - but I don't think Joe was talking about them...
