Just joined to thank you (GB Streamliner)

Hi folks,

I just registered to the forum to say thank you to all for the hints and information
you gave me the last year.

Especially, because after I purchased a FMC 212 Cabinet (with an additionally 8 inch speaker and a horn, both swichable
to different cut frequencies and the horn additionally adjustable)
I was looking for the matching amp.
FMC is a small cabinet builder, only builds and sells directly, and he is very famous in germany.
His cabinets are comparable to Glockenklang, as the bigger bass magazines in germany state.

After reading hours ans hours, I went to a shop, carrying my cabinet and my basses in there,
and then tested the TC RH 450, Markbass 800 tube and the Genz Benz streamliner,
I found the amp, or, the Streamliner found me.

It was like .. just... thats it! No more questions.

My basses are a epiphone accu bass (p-Bass) and a Ibanez Roadbass 707.
The Ibanez (from the 80s) fits best with my new rig of STL 900 and FMC 212 cabinet,
the Epiphone and my self-build 5-string jazzbass are nearly a bit too much punch in the lows.
(I like it, but in the band the Ibanez is sounding better.)

Maybe someone can help me out with a question...
Which brand of tubes should I purchase as a spare for the streamliner?
There are so many brands.. searching for a 12AX7.. but which?

Maybe I can help also and give hints sometime

I wouldn't worry too much about spare 12AX7's. But, why not -- a new quest!

to OP try dialing back the bass knob even below 9:00, makes my bigger bottom basses sound like less boom and more punch.

I've had this amp like 2-3 months and gigged it abuncha times since and I'm still learning/finding new, nice sounding settings by turning a knob(s) abit here and abit there. Welcome and Enjoy.

The Friday rehearshal (?? its "Probe" in german) was fun with the Streamliner.

can´ t wait for the next gig... I will blow them away...

The easiness to turn some overdrive to the sound and then turn back to clean for other songs is great.

agedhorse, good engineering. I love the real tubes much more than some digital processed ones like in the RH amps. But I have to cut the lows almost to zero in the rehearshal room.
On the recordings there it is still enough. If I am not careful, I blow the snare and the Bass drum away...

Thank you Volker.

Some basses, especially those with active eq may have more low end than you need when coupled with the natural voicing of the Streamliner. Cabinet choice and room acoustics will also play a role in low end response. That's why we designed the bass eq control to go down as well as up ;)

You might double-check your bass's eq too, maybe it got turned up without your realizing it. Are you using any pedals with your set-up? Some pedals have additional voicing built in.

I was just playing my Streamliner... I love the thing. Its PERFECT that tube tone. Sometimes I miss the solid state tone, which is why the Shuttlemax is an awesome compliment to it. I also play with the bass below 9pm & mids 220 hz boosted

Hello,

I don´t use any pedals.
My favorite Bass with the streamliner is a Ibanez Roadbass 707 ,I think.. hard to say.. its old...
Its a PJ-Bass, passive, only 3.5 kg, slim neck (38 mm), with DR Sunbeam strings on it..
I never realized the full tone and the interaction of the neck/bridge pickups so much as with that amp.
The bass is from the late 90s.
The other bass (Epiphone Accu Bass), a P - Bass, passive, with Rotosound Nickel 66 roundwounds,
is really moving the earth with my stack, but in the band, it is nearly too much.

I found the master knob is scratching a little in the nearly-zero area, but I can live with it..
Maybe that will go away after some time.

What I like is that I hear a really diference WHERE I hit the strings, more near the bridge, more near the fretboard..
I see I will have a lot to learn to control the bass by only the adjustment of my fingerplay.
