Just ordered a Golight 4x10

Why assume that Fender buying a company would result in quality going down? Certainly the opposite has happened with Gretsch. The new Gretsch guitars are not only better than the ones from the 90's, they are also quite a bit better made than the ones from the 60's!

Zactly.

Those old SWR's have had some problems. How many of the newer SM900's have we seen on here with problems, then if you see them they can be fixed.

I just get tired of the kind of thinking that SWR is not the "in" product now so it is somehow not as good.

Some of their products are the Bees Knees.

I absolutely love that M2 Preamp and these Golight Cabs are sweet.

Sometimes there is the thought presented that there is a guy over here buying 1 percent of the drivers from Eminence and yet he is able to get better quality.

Put that with your magic fairy dust and smoke it.:D

It's all good though. :)

Actually one-off builders are likely to at least some of the time access part of the catalog of drivers that are chosen regardless of their higher price tag. And the edge for OEM drivers over stock ones has dissipated in most cases. OEM tweaks if any meet specific enclosure needs but don't result in big superiority any more.

And mass manufacturers are more likely to choose capable but not top-priced drivers for their boxes simply out of price-competitive market realities, and to keep stockholders or owners happy. This is not to say quality is at an issue because the QC is remarkably good. But specific performance edges these days may be in favor of small builders and savvy DIYers.

How much does your Jr weigh with the NEO's in it? Pretty sure it will not be as light as the Golight.

According to SWR the cabs are totally different materials with lightweight handles/grill etc...

The Golight 2x10 weighs 38 pounds and the 1x15 is 45 pounds. The 1x15 is a big cab that sounds like a traditional 1x15 cab to my ears.

They are definitely using Eminence Drivers in the Golights.

If I had to guess Fender probably went to Eminence and said design us some speakers that emulate the Ceramics in our current cabs.

Not sure, but there is a weight save..not that a Goliath 111 jnr was an issue weight-wise anyway. I just wanted decent replacements and a friend of mine did the same thing and loved it all round..

The Jnr cab is well-made IMV so I wasn't going to ditch it anyway..
If I had gotten a recommendation on other speaker replacements I would have gone that way..
I sent the chassis' to a custom cone maker and he said the PAS were poor in his view...and his units were better..
He would say that, I guess, but if he rewound the PAS 10" he couldn't say what power wattage I would get...and I probably wouldn't gain anything either.
I didn't go for his custon speakers as they were a pressed steel and not edge-wound unit..
So made up my mind and I went for the Deltas...and binned the PAS units but I looked over many Celestions and Eminence options and I wanted a cast chassis and a power upgrade as that never hurts.

I will gig them in earnest over the next few days so will report back on that...
I tend to use them as the high end of a bi amped rig and full range on a small jazzer

Please weigh the cab when you get a chance. I would like to know what difference it made.

Also what ohm speakers did you use/cab impedance?

Sure, I will get back to you on this...

I used 8ohm units which will make the cab 4 ohm...again, this wasn't my 1st choice as I will run it with a 15" 8ohm at times but it is a stereo amp so I can control the output somewhat.
It is SS and the output stage so shouldn't complain at all..

I needed the speakers quickly so had to go with what they had in stock...
I am not even sure they had 16 ohm in the country.

Give me a few days ....

The weight of the Gol jnr lll is an unscientific 42lbs or so...but it is so light and manageable, it isn't an issue..

The cab is now 4ohms and 500watt which is quite a punch, the sound is about the same but I haven't A/B it.

with the SoBertha underneath the sound is montrous bridged... and you have a bit more control when bi-amped.

At the moment, I can't be bothered running biamped as I am enjoying it all so much.

For me, have a 15 in the mix as well just makes playing so much easier and simpler.. but I think 2 2x10 would work very well also ..and be a much better carry than the SOB 15.

42 pounds is not bad considering the regular version is 55 pounds. Heck my Golight is 38 pounds.

At some point I'd like to have a 4 ohm 2x10 just to get more headroom from my LMIII. Does not need to be louder, just a touch more punch.
