just picked this up

I drive a truck for a living and just recently let go of my squier pbass project that i used to take with me on the road. So browsing CL for a new road bass i found this in Salem VA.

Picked it up this morning for $100. Havent heard it thru an amp yet but acoustically if feels and sounds solid. Will be my new project for pickups and preamp. Its a Toby Deluxe V.

Well, got home last night, tried it thru an amp, and i am not impressed at all. Lacks a lot of low end and visible damage to the frets from round wound strings.

Def needs new pickups, im guessing the battery only powers the tone enhancer pot, its the only circuit board in the control cavity. So should be able to either put in an active preamp or just swap to better passive pickups.

Fret damage can be filed out in most cases. Too bad the electronics aren't cutting it. Still could be a player.

Hey TJ. If you want something that fits in the truck cabin easily do something like this. I'm actually playing it quite a bit as it is comfortable, plays well and sounds pretty good too. So much so that i'm looking at getting it sprayed properly as my pathetic spray job is starting to bug me. Would be perfect for the sleeping in a big truck.

That's a cool way to get your sound. I was going to suggest a Roland Cube Street, which is what I use for backyard BBQ's and camping and it works great but i'm sure your truck sound system is better. The Cube is great for practicing on the back porch. I plug in the little bass, plug in my tablet with my sheet music (Mobile Sheets app) which has the songs linked to the sheets and then work through the songs that i'm a little rusty on.

I played around with a couple of drum apps yesterday but they really are pretty crap. I'll continue to use the mp3's that i've made on Reaper with the MT Drum kit. Very realistic, good fills and changes that I can put together myself.

Hey Rufus. Here's the link to the MT Power Drum Kit. I've tried a few now and this is most definitely the best and most realistic sounding. I just got a midi lead and used our electronic piano with it for the first time this morning and it is great. The weighted keys give you so much more realism on the sound.
