Just realized something...

Right. That's why he was trying out...because he's way above them.

Metallica's fans suck, BTW. I've never seen a bigger bunch of fair-weather a-holes except for Howard Stern fans.

A lot of them are, you're right. Myself, I like a lot of their music, and don't like some of their music. Doesn't mean they "sold out" or whatever, just that some of their releases aren't really my thing. But that's all right, the bands I like don't owe me anything, they can make whatever music they feel like making.

Uhh, VVTF?

I like Metallica, but im not of those fans that go around youtube posting Metallica vs Megadeth stuff or saying they are the greatest ever or stuff like that.. why do you say they are fair wheater a holes?
"Metallica used to be cool but they sold out."

"They were good when nobody ever heard of them except a few people. Now they suck."

"When they cut their hair, their music went downhill."

"I bought their new album, but it's all sell-out music."

I've heard and seen people say all of these things and then some.

Im sure 90% of those guys dont even know the songs to the first 3 albums.. most of them are posers man

Well, all I can say guys is being 42, I'm pretty familiar with them. They are in no way a favorite, but if a 20 year friend calls you and says his wife isn't feeling well and cant go and wants to know if you want the tic... it was a no brainer for me. I think Trujillo is an outstanding bass player. Haven't decided if Metallica has "sold out" or just trying to keep up with the times... either way it was just ok. Kinda sorry I even opened the can of worms (Hiwatt, Rob, Metallica).. wow

i used to play a hiwatt dr103. it was amazing, but it really could never be clean at all. at the time i was into that, but then i decided i was more into 1200 dollars so i sold it.

That's unusual. I suppose everyone has a different definition of "clean", but generally you have to crank a Hiwatt pretty hard to get any hair on it.
What era DR103 was it?

Yeah, everybody's version of "clean" is different. I call my main tone "clean" because I'm not using an effects pedal for it, it's just tube overdrive, but it's really snarly. When I put additional distortion on it through the use of a stompbox, that's my "distorted" or "dirty" tone.

I've also heard that Hiwatts generally are fairly clean amps. I am curious.

it was a mid 80's i believe. it was odd though, my guitar player's 50 watt hiwatt was much cleaner than my 100 watt head. i had it looked at when i first bought it and everything checked out, still seems that maybe something was funky with mine, who knows.
