Just realized something...

Rob Trujillo uses Hiwatt into Mesa cabs. I rarely see a post on Hiwatt stuff? Tho its out of MY price range, anyone have/use these heads? Saw Metallica at the Q in Cleveland last month and while they were "tight" the sound was less than stellar... also noticed Kirk and Rob stop playing but still heard them in the mix?? hmmm ps there were NO amps/heads on stage, ALL house sound, which failed a few times but mysteriously would recover at a "perfect" section for it to, not doggin Metallica..They are awesome.. and Lars was Definatly playin! just my 2 cents :)

OK, I understood that better. It was a long time ago but I played a couple Hiwatt rigs. Very sweet, but I'll keep my Ampegs at the prices they go for in America.

Tell me Metallica's not playing to recorded music. I wouldn't be shocked. I saw WASP and White Zombie both doing it in late 80s and early 90s. WZombie's "tape" got off and he couldn't get his "yeaaahs" right. Looked like the buffoon he is. Steve Harris used to be into Hiwatts, but never tried 'em.

Doubt it. The drummer and guitarist from my band saw them on the last tour, said their playing was aweful, kirk botched the opening riff to one of the songs and james and the gang had to hop up and join in. Wouldn't have happened if they were playing to recorded tracks. Or maybe it was just a cover.....

What you were hearing likely had absolutely nothing to do with a Hiwatt or any other amp. Not on the bass end of things at least. It's all pre's, DI's and PA. The guitars may have had a miced up combo or two backstage with a ton of processing after that.

That being said, Hiwatts are pretty expensive in the US, hence all the ampeg saturation in the market.

I like old Hiwatt amps loads but they are so similar to old Sound City"s
old Simms Watts and old Roosts, that as they don't carry the hyped price tag of the Hiwatt amps, find their way into my possesion with far more ease.
The Roost is so similar that you would have to A/B the tone one after another to tell the difference.
It looks very much the same too:

Two alternative Hiwatts? They even have the same Partridge transformers as stock parts.
The Germans even have a naughty secret weapon called a Mywatt these days. It aint too shabby either.:D

I could'nt believe Pepper Keenan of Corrosion of Conformity was in that that vid tring out to play bass for Metalica.
In my book he is way, and I mean "wwaaaayy" above them.
Right. That's why he was trying out...because he's way above them.

Metallica's fans suck, BTW. I've never seen a bigger bunch of fair-weather a-holes except for Howard Stern fans.

I like Metallica, but im not of those fans that go around youtube posting Metallica vs Megadeth stuff or saying they are the greatest ever or stuff like that.. why do you say they are fair wheater a holes?
