Just upped my coffee game again

Wow. I've been looking for a Starbuck's alternative everywhere in my town but I never thought of just buying an expresso machine! Well there's the whole costing money machine, but it looks like you got a great deal! I would love to wake up to that thing everyday. I would be late to school all the time just because I'd get up late but would insist on my expresso.

This IS an expresso machine right? Or was my whole post misguided?

We had 8 of our old friends over Sunday and I ended up pulling a bunch of shots in a row and making some cappuccinos and lattes. I never even would have thought about turning on my old single-boiler machine with that many people. It was a lot of fun and good practice for me.

The only problem with this machine now is that I have to roast more coffee than before!

I still think your lust for coffee is going to drive you to form a mercenary force, invade some central american country to acquire it's entire coffee crop. Brad Cook, central american despot, please pay the peasants a living wage.:D

Brad, can you tell me what the difference is between a cappuccino and a latte?

I've been trying to figure this out. Aren't they both just steamed milk and espresso? (keep in mund I never put any kind of sugar or syrup in my latte) Is it the ratio of milk to coffee? I believe that cappuccino is usually a 50/50 blend of steamed milk and coffee while a latte is usually "triple grande" or some such thing (or in my case, 5-6 shot vente) What is the difference.

Coffee geeks, I need your help. I have this old crappy machine, the coffee it produces tastes like lukewarm liquid cardboard.

I need something to make me some coffee, some espresso, and some cappucino. And it would help if the beverage it produced was actually hot. But I'm cheap.

IMO, none of those combo machines are any good...especially on the "espresso" side. I put that in quotes because most of them are steam-pressure powered and don't actually produce espresso by definition. I'd say either by a coffee maker or a good espresso machine and grinder but don't try to get them together.

A cappuccino is less "milked down" than a latte with 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed-milk, 1/3 foam. Traditionally it's a 4.5 ounces. A double is about 6 to 8 ounces. Latte is a double combined with a lot of steamed milk or "microfoam". Many cafes serve this as some kind of mammoth milk drink of 14 oz or more. If I make this with a double shot it's usually closer to 6oz.

My favorite is a macchiato, which is a shot of espresso with just an ounce or so of microfoamed milk. Macchiato means "marked" in Italian so the idea is that you're just "marking" the espresso with some milk. You get the good espresso flavor but it goes a little further.

Yeah, man. Still using it almost every morning.. Still going strong and making great espresso. :) So glad I got that deal on it! Although I am always looking to take it to that next level...maybe get a machine that does this or that a little better and whatnot... GAS basically.
