Just upped my coffee game again

It does NOT make espresso, it can make a small amount of strong coffee, but it CANNOT make espresso. Espresso has a very narrow definition. It does make excellent coffee though.

I stand corrected. Which comes easy for me as I have had tons of practice. It mimmicks espresso well enough for my uncultured palette. My simple mind figured fine grind + correct water temp + pressure, same thing.:woot:

I oughta know better.

The problem is that is doesn't have enough pressure, even though their literature says it makes espresso. Stove top moka pots don't even produce real espresso. But they do make fine coffee. /coffeegeek

Haha, I get this all the time too. My newbie friends telling me about the new espresso maker they found and how it's so much cheaper than my expensive one. :D

I agree that they make good coffee, and some of the other brewing methods being talked about in the last couple days produce excellent coffee as well when done right. I started venturing down the 'roast my own beans' path, but backed out and have started exploring and perfecting the various methods for brewing coffee instead. I buddied up with some friends here in Olympia who own a coffee joint called Method Coffee Bar. Which, you guessed it, specializes in the methods for brewing coffee, and perfecting the art of doing so.

Cool. How much does it roast at a time? Are you still also using a grill-based drum roaster?

I'm doing a pound at a time now, but some people have done 1.5 pounds.

I moved away from the grill based unit. I started making one, someone stole it, I started to start again, then went with the popcorn popper, then this.

I've started freezing coffee in ice cube trays. Not only does it make iced coffee stronger, but it is fantastic for cooling drinks like cola - gives a whole new flavor without diluting.

sometimes at my previous job, I'd take maybe the last quarter or so of my occasional cup of joe (always drank it black), and I'd fill the rest of the cup with Dr. Pepper. Oddly they went well together.
