Hi guys,

I've been using a Fender Bassman 100 combo (Not a rumble. This one has a tweeter) for rehearsal/small gigs for a few years now, and I'm looking to sell it in favour of a 410 ampeg cab that I can use with my Orange TB500. For gigs, I have been using the Orange TB500 with an Ampeg 610HLF, which I was drawn to because of it having tweeters and portholes instead of one or the other, plus I didn't want to run the risk of running a conservatively rated 500w head with a 500w cab. Now, in hindsight, I've decided I can probably afford to run a 410 with the Orange head for smaller shows.

I know the 410HLF is going to sound a lot more like my 610 than a 410he could due to its similar voicing/same inclusion of bth tweeters and portholes, but I'm drawn toward the idea of having a less boomy cab in the 410he for rehearsals and smaller shows. Just wanted your thoughts.

The 410hlf actually goes deeper in the lows than the 610hlf. The 610hlf is tuned in between the 410he and 410hlf. I love the way the 410he and the 810e are tuned in the lows. To this day my favorite cab for live work is the 810e, especially the Heritage. But if I went with a 410, I'd do HE.

I think you should try both in a band settings and decide.

I had 410HE (people say one of the best ever made, the old 200W version with speakers from 400W 810E) and had A LOT trouble in a band with it.
When I used it with SVT-15E, the "15 was much louder and 410HE on top of was barely audible.
When I used it alone it had great, sweet low mids but not much low end (not "a half of 810E", which I had too) It was not enough low end to sit in the mix. It was too much in a guitars-hammond area.
I highly prefer SVT-410HLF, it gives me crear attack (with horn almost fully dimmed) and strong fundamental. Low mids are there, but not as present as with 410HE.
After having SVT-410HE, SVT-810E, SVT-15E and PF-115E and trying PF-210HE, the classic SVT-410HLF is still my favorite cab ever produced. SVT-810E is equally great, even greater sounding, but with Labella 760FL on my P-bass I find 410HLF easier to control in different, sometimes hard acoustically rooms.

Many people - like Jimmy - prefer the HE version. Jimmy is a PRO and knows Ampegs very well,
his point of view is a thing everybody who's thinking about buying Ampeg should consider.

This is great, thank you! I had no idea the 410he was that close in tuning to the 610. I thought going with an HE would be a much bigger jump in sound than what it seems to be.

Hopefully my combo will find a home soon and I can slap some money on a barrel real soon. Thanks again!

Still open to other suggestions.
