Sterlings have ceramic pickups which are a bit more rowdy and aggressive sounding compared to the Stingray's Alnico pickups, but a Stingray can certainly pull that off too.

I can get close to my Wal with mine with the overall tone but not exactly the same because of the filtering. Also love the neck of the Sterling.

Single ply lets the tone breathe. Triple-ply gives you a little bit of boom. Brass gives you that top end zing. Lead gives you that low mid growl. Triple-ply lead gives tightens that low end and gives you more focused low mids. And a hernia. Mirror gives you the ability to blind 1d10 random audience people for 3 rounds.
