Wouldn't that kill whatever acoustic sound you get from that? I have found that the hollow body really makes the string thump on the attack interacting from the box's top. Very different from the solid.

Something like this that maybe wouldn't interfere with the wood resonating. I have no idea. It would look kinda cool though, I think.

If the pick guards is on the treble side, it shouldn't affect the bass side.

Yeah- I doubt a thin, flexible pickguard would have much if any affect on tone.
