Kala UBass Megathread, Part 5

I am not happy about a phase out of the passives. I guess I will have to wait and see what the active acoustics sound like.
All I can do now is compare the passive acoustic to the active SUB, and I greatly prefer the passive acoustic.

Thanks for the responses. Another question: are the necks on the Ubasses without trusses less stable than those with them? Would it be out of the question to put Pyramid flats on a truss-less ubass?

I have a lead on a 'hog fretless with passive pickups and no truss. I appreciate the help!

I have tugged an pulled and installed high tension strings and tuned them up 3 more half tones. It has not moved at all from being unstrung. That is my first production run hog fretless. No rid in it at all. I doubt any string would cause any problems on any ubass from my experience.

Do you mean pyramid flats for "normal" basses?

Oh those are rounds. I doubt it would be a problem. Even those are relatively low tension on a short and stubby neck. If they made flats for the ubass I'd be all over that. Tapes would be even better.

Yeah - that's a bummer. I grew up with Sam Ash, and, I would never do mail order with them.

Best mail order music dealer on the planet these days, IMHO, is:
Sweetwater.

They won't jerk you around with stock/availability.

What impressed me with the Sweetwater approach was their apparently exact reports on current stock. And they offered photos of both samples of said model for choosing between grain patterns. Both were nice, but one was a little bland compared to the other.
